Belthangady Assembly constituency is one of the 224 Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly) constituencies of Karnataka in southwestern India. [2]
Belthangady (constituency number 200) is one of the eight Assembly constituencies located in Dakshina Kannada district. It covers the same area as the Belthangady Taluk. [3] [4]
Belthangady is part of Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency, along with seven other Vidhan Sabha constituencies, namely: 201. Moodabidri, 202. Mangalore City North, 203. Mangalore City South, 204. Mangalore, 205. Bantval, 206. Puttur and 207. Sullia (SC). [4]
The contest for the Belthangady legislative seat has been a thirty year contest between the Gowda family and the Bangera family, as well as one between the two Bangera brothers, Vasantha and Prabhakara. [5] [6] [7] [8]

has generic name (help)Dakshina Kannada district is located in the state of Karnataka in India, with its headquarters in the coastal city of Mangalore. It is part of the larger Tulu Nadu region. The district covers an area nestled in between the Western Ghats to its east and the Arabian Sea to its west. Dakshina Kannada receives abundant rainfall during the Indian monsoon. It is bordered by Udupi district to the north, Chikmagalur district to the northeast, Hassan district to the east, Kodagu to the southeast and Kasaragod district of Kerala to the south. According to the 2011 census of India, Dakshina Kannada district had a population of 2,083,625. It is the only district in Karnataka state to have all modes of transport like road, rail, water and air due to the presence of a major hub, Mangalore. This financial district is also known as the Cradle of Indian banking.

Bhagirathi Murulya is an Indian politician who was first elected to office in 2023 as a member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly representing the Sullia constituency. She is a member of the women's and children's welfare committee. This seat had previously been held for six terms by Angara S., before Murulya was selected as a BJP candidate. Murulya belongs to the Tulu-speaking Adi Dravida community, and she was the poorest candidate to win a seat in the assembly. Murulya had worked as a tailor and a teacher before becoming a MLA. Murulya took the oath in the name of her family deity.
