Belthangady Assembly constituency is one of the 224 Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly) constituencies of Karnataka in southwestern India. [2]

Overview

Belthangady (constituency number 200) is one of the eight Assembly constituencies located in Dakshina Kannada district. It covers the same area as the Belthangady Taluk. [3] [4]

Belthangady is part of Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency, along with seven other Vidhan Sabha constituencies, namely: 201. Moodabidri, 202. Mangalore City North, 203. Mangalore City South, 204. Mangalore, 205. Bantval, 206. Puttur and 207. Sullia (SC). [4]

The contest for the Belthangady legislative seat has been a thirty year contest between the Gowda family and the Bangera family, as well as one between the two Bangera brothers, Vasantha and Prabhakara. [5] [6] [7] [8]

K. Vasantha Bangera was an Indian politician from the state of Karnataka. Bangera was a five term member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and represented the Belthangady constituency.

Harish Poonja is an Indian politician and member of the legislative assembly from Bharatiya Janata Party representing Belthangady constituency in Dakshina Kannada.

Bhagirathi Murulya is an Indian politician who was first elected to office in 2023 as a member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly representing the Sullia constituency. She is a member of the women's and children's welfare committee. This seat had previously been held for six terms by Angara S., before Murulya was selected as a BJP candidate. Murulya belongs to the Tulu-speaking Adi Dravida community, and she was the poorest candidate to win a seat in the assembly. Murulya had worked as a tailor and a teacher before becoming a MLA. Murulya took the oath in the name of her family deity.
