Babylon 5 American space opera television series created by writer and producer J. Michael Straczynski

Babylon 5 is an American space opera television series created by writer and producer J. Michael Straczynski, under the Babylonian Productions label, in association with Straczynski's Synthetic Worlds Ltd. and Warner Bros. Domestic Television. After the successful airing of a test pilot movie on February 22, 1993, Babylon 5: The Gathering, in May 1993 Warner Bros. commissioned the series for production as part of its Prime Time Entertainment Network (PTEN). The first season premiered in the US on January 26, 1994, and the series ultimately ran for the intended five seasons, costing an estimated $90 million for 110 episodes.

Synopsis

Sheridan faces continued interrogation from Earth Alliance, now being drugged to believe he is on Babylon 5 to speak more openly.

On Mars, Garibaldi attempts to make contact with allies but is quickly captured by the Resistance and taken to its leader, Number One, along with Franklin and Lyta. Number One is ready to kill Garibaldi for turning Sheridan in, despite Garibaldi claiming it was all a Psi-Corps frameup. Lyta intercedes and offers to read Garibaldi's mind, verifying that high-level telepathic blocks had been put in place and then with her Vorlon-enhanced abilities breaks through the blocks to verify he is telling the truth. After recovering, Garibaldi has an idea where Sheridan is being held on Earth. Number One offers as little help as she can spare to help them sneak in. Ultimately they are able to free Sheridan and then work their way to rejoin his fleet.

On Babylon 5, Ambassadors Mollari and G'Kar gain cooperation from the League of Non-Aligned Worlds to provide warcraft to help support Sheridan's fleet, justifying the fact that Sheridan and the other Earth crew have put their lives on the line to help protect their worlds from the Shadows. They present this agreement to Delenn as a surprise just before she sets off to join Sheridan's fleet.

Within the fleet, one of the captured Earth crew offers inside information for leniency, in that Earth is aware of the fleet's plan to travel to Mars, and has prepared stronger warships to intercept them. Armed with this knowledge, Ivanova carefully plans out their arrival, using primarily the Minbari ships. When they jump into the sector, they are soon surrounded by Earth battlecruisers augmented with Shadow technology. The Minbari ships are more maneuverable and are able to take out the larger ships. Ivanova orders her White Star on a head-first attack to one ship, and while their attack run is successful, debris from the ship strikes the White Star, mortally wounding Ivanova. Marcus rescues her and takes her to a Minbari warship for care. Sheridan arrives, reunites with Delenn, and sees to Ivanova, revealing that her injuries are too severe and she will likely die within a week.

Sheridan requests command of the Agamemnon, his old command, and prepares to lead the fleet to Mars.
