"A Tragedy of Telepaths" is an episode from the fifth season of the science-fiction television series Babylon 5 .

Babylon 5 is an American space opera television series created by writer and producer J. Michael Straczynski, under the Babylonian Productions label, in association with Straczynski's Synthetic Worlds Ltd. and Warner Bros. Domestic Television. After the successful airing of a test pilot movie on February 22, 1993, Babylon 5: The Gathering, in May 1993 Warner Bros. commissioned the series for production as part of its Prime Time Entertainment Network (PTEN). The first season premiered in the US on January 26, 1994, and the series ultimately ran for the intended five seasons, costing an estimated $90 million for 110 episodes.
Byron and the bulk of his telepaths have barricaded themselves within the Babylon 5 sector allocated to them by Sheridan, though there is concern that several might have escaped and are hiding aboard the station. After having given the telepaths sufficient warning to turn themselves in to avoid the use of force, Captain Lochley orders Zack and security to cut through the barricades, though this is made difficult by the telepaths that implant suggestions of bombs within the walls, scaring off the welding crews. Lochley contacts PsiCorps and asks Bester to come up, and while waiting for his arrival, has Zack help her locate an air vent that should reach the sector and goes through it, hoping to make peaceful arrangements with Byron. The telepaths allow her in and take her to Byron, who states they will not be giving into their demands, but instead wants to make sure to thank Lochley for her support as they will be leaving the station very soon. Lochley returns to the main part of the station by the time Bester arrives, and she takes them to one of the blocked access point, where he quickly counters the telepathic impressions they are using. Just then, the escaped telepaths fire upon the group, killing some of the security staff. With the situation getting desperate, Bester takes charge to capture all of the telepaths, and calls for more PsiCorps to help.
Meanwhile, Sheridan and Delenn deal with further confrontation with members of the Alliance, as the Drazi believe the Brakiri are responsible for the attacks on their merchant ships, due to finding scraps of Brakiri metal among the wreckage. Similarly the Gaim have found Drazi debris among the wreckage of their ships. Sheridan has the station staff examine the metals and informs the three ambassadors that these pieces of metal were planted to make each world try to blame the other, and point to a third-party agency that is trying to disrupt the Alliance. Sheridan asks for more time for them to study this. However, some hours later, the Drazi reveal they have set up ships on the Brakiri border, threatening to shoot down any unauthorized ship. Sheridan and Delenn discuss the matter, and later meet with the ambassadors, revealing that as per the Alliance terms, armed White Stars have been positioned in attack range of the Drazi, and will attack them if they launch any unauthorized attack. Sheridan convinces the ambassadors to give them more time and that once they identify the culprit, they will all act together, the Alliance providing its support, to punish whomever is behind the attacks. The ambassadors reluctantly agree, not having expected this to be what terms the Alliance gave them.
On Centauri Prime, G'Kar learns that someone is being served Narn food in a disused portion of the imperial palace. Mollari helps G'kar to reach the wing of the palace, finding that a sole guard is overseeing the imprisonment of Na'Toth, G'Kar's former aide from Babylon 5 and believed killed in the Centauri attack on Narn. Mollari wants to try to help G'kar free Na'Toth, but knows that the order to imprison her came from Cartagia, and only the Regent can overturn an Emperor's previous order. G'Kar begs Mollari to find a way. When Mollari is visted by one of the ladies of the court, he gets the idea to smuggle Na'Toth out by disguising her as a lady of the court while he acts with drunken infidelity, behavior that the other members of the court will try to ignore. Mollari's plan succeeds, and after leaving Centauri Prime, they meet with a Narn vessel to escort Na'Toth back to the Narn homeworld to heal and recover.
This episode involves a food called spoo. The foodstuff had become a running gag among Babylon 5 fans [1] and has been mentioned in other episodes [2] and included in a fandom cookbook. [3]
