Synopsis

The command staff of Babylon 5 are alerted to the pending arrival of Bester from Psi-Corps, which makes the staff uneasy, knowing Bester can easily scan their minds as a powerful telepath. When Bester arrivals, Ivanova considers blasting his shuttle with their weapon systems but Sheridan stops her and reveals he has a plan. Bester is escorted to meet the command staff, each who have a Minbari telepath to help block any of Bester's unauthorized scans. Sheridan gives Bester an ultimatum, that either he conduct business with the Minbari around, or willing submit to take the Psi-Corps' drug that will temporarily weaken his telepathic abilities while on the station so that he can deal with the human crew directly. Bester agrees to the latter, then explains his business here: that Psi-Corps have discovered someone on Babylon 5 smuggling Dust, an addictive drug that enhances the human mind and gives them limited telepathic abilities, and needs to stop it. The command crew agree to help, and Garibaldi joins Bester as they search the station.

Elsewhere, G'Kar meets with Lindstrom, the man selling Dust. G'Kar wants something that the Narn resistance can use against the Centauri and easy to smuggle in. Lindstrom warns him that Dust was designed for the human mind, and while it has genetic markers for non-human species, they do not know how it will affect them. G'Kar refuses to buy Dust, but keeps the sample. Lindstrom goes and tries to sell his wares to other humans, but Garibaldi and Bester are able to track him down and stop the sale, seizing the supply of Dust and arresting Lindstrom and his customers.

G'Kar becomes curious and takes the sample of Dust, and enters a crazed state, where he does appear to have telepathic abilities. In his madness, he makes his way to Mollari's quarters, knocks out Vir, and begins to torture Mollari. During these events, G'Kar is able to read Mollari's mind, and learns it was he that contacted his "associates", the Shadows, to launch the attack on Narn, infuriating him more. As G'Kar continues to torture Mollari, he is suddenly struck by a vision of his father, who speaks that his conflict with the Centauri means nothing in the larger picture in the Shadow war, and that if he doesn't join with the other races with the larger threat, the Narn will be nothing but a memory. The vision transforms into an angel-like being that flies off. Enlightened, G'Kar breaks off his assault on Mollari. Outside the quarters, Ambassador Kosh quietly departs. Mollari and Vir recover, and G'Kar willingly pleads guilty for using Dust and attacking the Centauri, spending several weeks in a brig but able to reflect upon his vision.

Bester prepares to leave the station, meeting one of his aides as the anti-telepathic drug wears out. Bester comments in private to the aide that Psi-Corps' attempts to develop Dust to create new human telepaths appeared to have failed.
