Synopsis
Though Sheridan has been able to convince Mollari and G'Kar to allow his fleet of White Stars to patrol and protect the borders of their planetary space, he is unable to convince the members of the League of Non-Aligned Worlds to accept this, as they would see it as a potential threat. He comes up with a plan based on tricking the League worlds by acting if there is a threat from an invisible enemy but not admitting anything to the League. The League becomes suspicious of this, and demand that Sheridan allow the White Star fleet patrol their worlds as well, in exchange for fully supporting the fleet for any larger action they may need. Sheridan pretends it's a difficult order, but once away from the League, gives a shout of joy that his plan succeeded.
Meanwhile, Delenn, Lennier and members of the religious clan meet with Neroon and the warrior clan, with both sides wary of the other's intent. However, Delenn and Neroon speak in private, and both agree that in order to quell the civil war breaking out on Minbar, neither the warrior or religious clan can win. Members of the religious clan overhear part of this conversation and believe Delenn is ready to surrender to the warrior clan. So they set a plan in motion to poison the air on the ship thus killing all aboard and making it a mystery for the Minbari to come together to solve. Lennier learns of this and risks his life to disable the poison, passing out unconscious after inhaling a small amount of the poison. Neroon makes sure Lennier gets the best care, but this still requires part of Lennier's lung. When Delenn comes to see Lennier with the rest of the religious clan watching, Lennier masks the truth, telling Delenn that the incident certainly was not a warrior clan plan. After Delenn leaves, Lennier explains to the other religious clan that telling Delenn the truth would devastate her, and her current agreement with Neroon is too fragile to disrupt.
As Lennier continues to recover, he sees Neroon walking towards the shuttle bay, and then sees him depart. He goes to wake Delenn and warns her of Neroon's departure. On Neroon's ship, he relays all of Delenn's plans to his allies, anticipating that the warrior clan will be able to quell any attempt by the religious clan to establish order.
