Bhopal railway division is one of the three railway divisions falling under West Central Railway zone (WCR) of Indian Railways. This railway division was formed on 1 April 1952 and its headquarters are located at Habibganj railway station, Bhopal in the state of Madhya Pradesh of India.

Geographical jurisdiction

The Bhopal division extends to Khandwa Junction (excluding) in the south and Bina Junction (including) in the north on the Mumbai-Delhi main line route. Its branch lines extend from Bina Junction (excluding) to Maxi Junction (excluding) via Guna Junction and: from Guna Junction to Kota Junction (excluding) and from Guna Junction to Gwalior Junction (excluding). [3]

Number of Lines (tracks) on each route

The section between Khandwa junction to Itarsi junction is a double line section. Section between Itarsi junction to Bhopal junction to Bina junction section is a three line section. The branch line sections Bina-Guna, Guna-Kota and Guna-Maxi are presently single line sections where the work of provision of second line is in progress. Guna-Gwalior branch line is a single line section.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">West Central Railway zone</span> Indian Railway zone

The West Central Railway, one of the 19 zones of the Indian Railways, came into existence on 1 April 2003. It is headquartered at Jabalpur. It was created by taking away two divisions namely Bhopal division and Jabalpur division from central railways and one division namely Kota division from Western Railway zone. The WCR zone provides rail route coverage to the west central region of India. Most of its route is in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan with a very little portion in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

Rail transport in Madhya Pradesh began in the year 1867 when Allahabad–Jabalpur branch line was opened in June 1867. The Etarsi to Jabalpur section was opened on 7 March 1870 by GIPR, linking up with EIR track at Jabalpur from Allahabad, and establishing connectivity between Mumbai and Kolkata. In 1903, with the introduction of Delhi-Chennai rail route through the state and Bhopal Junction railway station, the state got a good rail connectivity. Presently major portion of the state's rail connectivity is provided by the railway zone called West Central Railway.

CRS inspection of RE work of Maksi Ruthiyai and Guna Gwalior has been done in Jul 2020. Now this route is fully electrified from Indore, Dewas, Maksi, Shajapur, Biyavra Rajgarh (BRRG), Ruthiyai, Guna, Shivpuri and Gwalior. This Gwalior, Guna, Ruthiyai, Maksi, Dewas, Indore Single Electrified Rail Line will be a connecting rail line for Indore Manmad Rail Line Project(under Central Railway, Bhusawal Division) and will boost the economical development in Malwa Region of Madhya Pradesh. The Indore Manmad Railway Line project covers 6 Districts in 2 States i.e., Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh will increase the existing network of Indian Railways by about 309 km.
