Bicep are an electronic music production and DJ duo from Belfast, Northern Ireland, consisting of Andrew Ferguson and Matthew McBriar. [1] [2]
Bicep was formed in 2009 as a production and DJing pair in London. The duo, childhood friends, [3] created a blog called "Feel My Bicep", which was used to post lost and forgotten disco, Chicago house, Detroit techno and Italo disco edits. [4] [5]
They released tracks on labels Throne of Blood, Traveller Records and Mystery Meat before joining Will Saul's Aus Music and setting up their own label Feel My Bicep in September 2012. [6] That year the pair were awarded DJ Mag's 'Best of British Breakthrough DJ' award. [7]
After signing to Ninja Tune in 2017, Bicep released their debut album Bicep , which went in at number 20 on the UK Albums Chart, [8] and received positive reviews from publications such as Pitchfork , The Guardian , Resident Advisor and Mixmag . [9] The lead single, "Glue", was voted by the public as DJ Mag's (Best of British) Track of the Year. [10] It also reached number 1 on Amazon's Best Electronic of 2017, [11] and came second in Mixmag 's 100 Best Tracks of 2017. [12]
Bicep released their second album Isles on Ninja Tune on 22 January 2021. They released the lead single "Apricots" with a music video from BAFTA-winner director Mark Jenkin. [13] "Apricots" scored Top-50 entries in both the UK's Official Singles Chart [14] and Billboard's Dance/Electronic Songs Chart, was named Billboard's #1 dance track of 2020, [15] hit #1 on the UK's Shazam chart, and spent 10 weeks on the BBC Radio 1 playlist. [16]
The album was nominated for Best Irish Album of 2021 for the Choice Music Prize. [17]
Isles was number one on the midweek UK Albums Chart for the week beginning 25 January 2021, [18] before debuting at number two on the final chart, scooping a number 1 on the UK Official Vinyl Albums Chart, [19] additionally breaking into multiple Billboard charts including number 12 on the Dance/Electronic Chart. [20]
The duo made a pivot to ticketed streams during the coronavirus pandemic, delivering two shows broadcast across 5 timezones. The shows were watched in over 70 countries worldwide, [21] giving fans new live material ahead of the return of in-person shows. The second global stream was recorded at London's Saatchi Gallery and was awarded four stars by The Guardian , [22] with NME calling it an innovative and boundary-pushing audiovisual show. [23]
Following the release of Isles, Bicep were nominated in two categories at the 2021 BRIT Awards for 'British Group' and 'Breakthrough Artist'. [24]
In August 2024, McBriar received brain surgery for a rare craniopharyngioma tumour on his pituitary gland. [25]
Between 2017 and 2018, the duo embarked on a live headline world tour to venues across the world, including the US, Japan and Europe. In the UK, they played shows at Electric Brixton, [26] Roundhouse [27] and three consecutive dates alongside Overmono at Printworks in London, [28] which was filmed by Resident Advisor and one of their final live shows until 2020. [29]
Bicep headlined their first major British festival at Field Day in August 2021.

Richard "Richie" Hawtin is a British-Canadian electronic musician and DJ. He became involved with Detroit techno's second wave in the early 1990s, and has been a leading exponent of minimal techno since the mid-1990s. He became known for his recordings under the Plastikman and F.U.S.E. aliases. Under the latter, he released his debut album Dimension Intrusion (1993) as part of Warp's Artificial Intelligence series.
Myles MacInnes, better known by his stage name Mylo, is a Scottish electronic musician and record producer. His 2004 album Destroy Rock & Roll peaked at number 26 on the UK Albums Chart. He is best known for his 2005 single "Doctor Pressure", a mashup of his own track "Drop the Pressure" and Miami Sound Machine's 1984 song "Dr. Beat"; it peaked at number 3 on the UK Singles Chart.
"Music Sounds Better with You" is the only record by the French house trio Stardust, released on 20 July 1998. Stardust comprised the Daft Punk member Thomas Bangalter, the DJ Alan Braxe and the vocalist Benjamin Diamond.
Robert Ferguson, known professionally as Fergie, is a Northern Irish DJ and electronic music artist from Larne. He has been an internationally touring DJ and a music producer for over 20 years. He presented a radio show on BBC Radio 1 for over four years while recording 13 Essential Mixes for the station. He was featured in the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll seven consecutive years and currently holds the record for the highest new entry since the poll began, achieved when he was voted 8th in 2000.
"Fly Life" is a song by English electronic dance music duo Basement Jaxx from their fourth extended play, EP3, released in 1996. The track was largely based on the 1996 single "Live Your Life with Me", which they produced for vocalist Corrina Joseph, their collaborator since 1995 in order to make "proper songs".
Mount Kimbie is an English electronic music group consisting of Dominic Maker, Kai Campos, Andrea Balency-Béarn and Marc Pell. Mount Kimbie was formed in 2008 by Maker and Campos. The duo expanded on the musical template of the UK dubstep scene, releasing early EPs Maybes and Sketch on Glass to critical praise the following year. Their debut album Crooks & Lovers in 2010 received further acclaim and was listed as one of the defining albums of the decade by DJ Mag.

Maya Jane Coles is a British music producer, audio engineer and DJ, born in London. Under her real name, she mostly composes and plays house and techno music, while her alias Nocturnal Sunshine creates darker, more bass-driven productions with a heavy hip-hop and dub influence. She was previously part of an electronic dub duo called She Is Danger with Lena Cullen.
Disclosure are an English electronic music duo consisting of brothers Howard and Guy Lawrence. They grew up in Reigate, Surrey. Their debut studio album, Settle, released on 3 June 2013, by PMR Records, was nominated for Best Dance/Electronica Album at the 2014 Grammy Awards. They released a second studio album, Caracal, on 25 September 2015 which was also nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Album at the 2016 Grammy Awards. Their third studio album, Energy, was released on 28 August 2020, and was nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Album at the 2021 Grammy Awards, alongside the fourth single from the album, "My High", which was nominated for Best Dance Recording.
Mladen Solomun, better known under his stage name Solomun, is a Bosnian-German DJ. He is a four-time DJ Awards winner for Best Producer, Best DJ and Best Melodic House DJ.
"Flowers" is the debut single by UK garage duo Sweet Female Attitude, released on 3 April 2000. The song uses the same chord sequence as Erik Satie's Trois Gymnopédies, and the actual piece can be heard in the version by The House & Garage Orchestra, from the 2018 album Garage Classics.

"Atlas" is a song by Northern Irish electronic music duo Bicep from their second studio album, Isles (2021). It was released through independent record label Ninja Tune as the first single from the album on 24 March 2020. A 12-inch vinyl single was released on 3 April 2020. The song contains a vocal sample from Israeli singer Ofra Haza's 1988 a capella track "Love Song", written by Bezalel Aloni. "Atlas" peaked at number 91 on the UK Singles Chart and charted at number 90 in Ireland.
Leifur James is a London-based experimental producer, composer and vocalist known for his esoteric avant-garde style. In 2018, his critically acclaimed debut album A Louder Silence was released on Night Time Stories, which was followed by a second album Angel In Disguise in June 2020.

The AVA Festival is a Belfast-based recurring event for the audio and visual arts, founded in 2015. AVA events have also been held in Holland, Great Britain, and India.
Eddie Halliwell is an English electronic dance music disc jockey who plays techno, house and trance music. Known for his live performances he has regularly featured in the DJ Mag top 100 DJ list, and has performed several times on the BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix show.
