Bird is a 2024 drama film written and directed by Andrea Arnold and starring Barry Keoghan.
The film had its world premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on 16 May 2024. [1]
Keoghan reportedly came aboard the project in May 2023 after leaving the cast of Ridley Scott epic Gladiator II . [3] That same month Franz Rogowski was revealed to be in talks to join the cast. [4]
Principal photography took place in the south of England with filming locations including Gravesend, Dartford, Ashford and Bean, Kent in June 2023. [5] [6] In July 2023 filming took place on the Isle of Sheppey. [7] Robbie Ryan served as the cinematographer.
Bird was presented at the European Film Market as part of the Berlin International Film Festival, with Cornerstone Films handling sales. [8] The film was selected in the main competition at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, [9] where it premiered on 16 May 2024. [1] Prior to, Mubi acquired UK and Irish distribution rights to the film from Cornerstone, then subsequently purchasing the distribution rights for North America and Turkey. [10] [11] The film will also play at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2024. [12]
On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 73% based on 45 reviews, with an average rating of 7.1/10. [13] On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 70 out of 100, based on 19 critic reviews indicating "generally favorable" reviews. [14]

Danielle Riley Keough is an American actress. She made her feature film debut in a supporting part in the musical biopic The Runaways (2010), portraying Marie Currie. Keough subsequently starred in the independent thriller The Good Doctor (2011), before being cast in a minor role in Steven Soderbergh's comedy film Magic Mike (2012). She had her first big-budget release in the action feature Mad Max: Fury Road (2015).
Andrea Patricia Arnold OBE is an English filmmaker and former actor. She won an Academy Award for her short film Wasp in 2005. Her feature films include Red Road (2006), Fish Tank (2009), and American Honey (2016), all of which have won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Arnold has also directed four episodes of the Amazon Prime Video series Transparent, as well as all seven episodes of the second season of the HBO series Big Little Lies. Her documentary Cow premiered at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival and played at the 2021 Telluride Film Festival.
