The 37th European Film Awards, presented by the European Film Academy to recognize achievements in European filmmaking, took place at Kultur- und Kongresszentrum Luzern in Lucerne on 7 December 2024. It marked the first time the awards ceremony was held in Switzerland. [1] Swiss host and voiceover actor Fernando Tiberini hosted the ceremony. [2]

The nominees for the European University Film Award were announced on 23 October 2024 by the European Film Academy and Filmfest Hamburg. [21] The winner was announced at the Mayor’s Night in Lucerne on 6 December 2024, the evening before the European Film Awards Ceremony. [22]

Eurocon is an annual science fiction convention held in Europe. The organising committee of each Eurocon is selected by a vote of the participants of the previous event. The procedure is coordinated by the European Science Fiction Society. The first Eurocon was held in Trieste, Italy, in 1972. Unlike Worldcons, Eurocon is usually a title attached to an existing convention. The European SF Awards are given in most of the conventions giving recognition to the best works and achievements in science fiction.
The OGAE Second Chance Contest is a visual event which was founded in 1987 and is organised by branches of OGAE, the international fan club of the Eurovision Song Contest. Four nations competed in the first contest which took place in 1987. The competition was previously a non-televised event, but evolved over the years by the usage of video tape and later DVD, YouTube and streaming services.

The Venice TV Award is a television prize bestowed each year in September. Two weeks after the Venice International Film Festival, a team of jurors from around the world meet in Venice to select the winners of 19 categories. Prerequisite for a nomination is that the production was first broadcast on a television station. The exception is the New Talent category.
