Kinds of Kindness is an upcoming anthology film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos from a screenplay he co-wrote with Efthimis Filippou. The films stars Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie, and Hunter Schafer.

Kinds of Kindness will have its world premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in May 2024, and is scheduled to be released in the United States by Searchlight Pictures on June 21, 2024, and in Ireland and the United Kingdom on June 28, 2024.

Premise

Kinds of Kindness is a triptych fable with segments following a man without choice who tries to take control of his life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing at sea has returned and seems to be a different person; and a woman who is determined to find a specific someone destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader.

Cast

Production

Yorgos Lanthimos and Efthymis Filippou wrote the script for the film, originally titled And, under development with Element Pictures and Film4, and Searchlight Pictures agreed to distribute the film, which Lanthimos would direct as well. Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, and Margaret Qualley were set to star in the film with plans to begin shooting in New Orleans in October. [2] In October 2022, Hong Chau, [3] Joe Alwyn, [4] and Mamoudou Athie joined the cast. [5] In a February 2023 interview, Hunter Schafer revealed she had "a little cameo" in the film. [6]

Filming took place in New Orleans from October 24 to December 16, 2022. [7] [8] In December 2023, the film was re-titled Kinds of Kindness. [9]

Release

Kinds of Kindness is set to world premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in-competition in May 2024. [10] It is scheduled to be released in the United States by Searchlight Pictures on June 21, 2024, and in Ireland and the United Kingdom on June 28, 2024. [11] The film is also scheduled to be released in Greece by Feelgood on May 30, 2024. [12]

The film's original music is scored by pop musician Jerskin Fendrix in his feature composition debut and features 21 tracks in the soundtrack album. It was released by Milan Records in conjunction with the film's release date, December 8, 2023. Two singles—"Bella" and "Lisbon"—released on November 14.
