Parr is a large township, now situated within St. Helens, England and is located towards the eastern side of the town. The population of the ward at the 2011 census was 12,199. However the area dates back to the West Derby hundred district from the 12th century. The area forms part of St Helens town centre.
Steve Ganson is a former rugby league referee, and current Head of Match Officials and Technical Director with the English Rugby Football League. He is the second professional referee from the town as Premier League referee Chris Foy also hails from St Helens. On 12 April 2013, Ganson retired his role as referee to take up the role of Match Officials Coach and Technical Director.
Blackbrook Amateur and Junior Rugby League Football Club are an amateur rugby league club based at Blackbrook Sports and Recreational Club in Boardmans Lane, Blackbrook, St. Helens, Merseyside. The first team plays in the National Conference League 3rd Division, whilst the junior section of the club; the Royals, play in the North West Counties Junior Rugby Leagues for ages 12 and up. The club form the basis of the careers of many St Helens R.F.C., Warrington Wolves, Wigan Warriors and in recent years especially, Salford City Reds players, thanks to their highly successful reputation at all ages through to Open Age rugby.

The town was incorporated as a municipal borough in 1868, responsible for the administration of the four townships and manors of Eccleston, Parr, Sutton and Windle. In 1887 this role was expanded to a county borough, which was superseded in 1974 by the larger metropolitan borough.
The North West Men's League is a rugby league competition for clubs in the North West of England. It is a successor league for the Rugby League Conference also comprising clubs from the North West Counties League following most of the latter switching to summer to follow the National Conference League.
