Borno Central senatorial district

The Borno Central senatorial district in Borno State, Nigeria covers the local government areas of Bama, Dikwa, Jere, Kaga, Kala/Balge, Konduga, Mafa, Maiduguri, and Ngala. The senator currently representing the district is Kaka Shehu Lawan, he was elected in 2023 under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, to succeed Vice President Kashim Shettima.

President Umaru Yar'Adua appointed him Minister for the National Planning Commission of Nigeria in July 2007, and relieved him of his post in October 2008. He was again reappointed as Minister for Works in April 2010 by Acting President Goodluck Jonathan.

Khalifa Ahmed Zanna was a Nigerian politician who was elected Senator for Borno Central, in Borno State, in the 9 April 2011 national elections at the age of 55. He was elected under the People's Democratic Party (Nigeria) and was re-elected 2015 but died on 16 May 2015, few days before resuming office.

Kashim Shettima Mustapha is a Nigerian politician who is the 15th and current vice president of Nigeria. He previously served as senator for Borno Central from 2019 to 2023, and as the governor of Borno State from 2011 to 2019.

Bello Mohammed Tukur is a Nigerian politician who served as the senator representing Adamawa Central senatorial district from 2011 to 2015. He previously served as deputy governor of Adamawa State from 1999 to 2007.

Abubakar Kyari is a Nigerian politician who is the minister of Agriculture and Food Security. He was the senator representing Borno North Senatorial District from 2015 until his resignation in April 2022. He is a member of the All Progressives Congress, and briefly served as its acting national chairman in 2023.

General elections were held in Nigeria on 25 February 2023 to elect the president and vice president and members of the Senate and House of Representatives. Incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari was term-limited and could not seek re-election for a third term. This election was seen as the tightest race since the end of military rule in 1999.

The 2015 Borno State gubernatorial election occurred on April 11, 2015. Incumbent Governor APC's Kashim Shettima won election for a second term, defeating PDP's Gambo Lawan and several minor party candidates. Shettima received 94.92% of the vote.

The 2003 Borno State gubernatorial election occurred on April 19, 2003. Incumbent governor, ANPP's Ali Modu Sheriff won election for a second term, defeating AD's Mala Kachalla and three other candidates. Sheriff allegedly sought for Boko Haram's assistance to win the election.

The 2023 Borno State gubernatorial election took place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Borno State, concurrent with elections to the Borno State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date—was held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent APC Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has been renominated by his party.

The 2019 Nigerian Senate elections in Bornu State were held on 23 February 2019, to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Bornu State. Governor Shettima Kashim representing Bornu Central, Kyari Abubakar Shaib representing Bornu North, and Ndume Mohammed Ali representing Bornu South all won on the platform of All Progressives Congress.

The 2011 Nigerian Senate election in Ogun State was held on April 9, 2011, to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Ogun State. Olugbenga Onaolapo Obadara representing Ogun Central, Sefiu Adegbenga Kaka representing Ogun East and Akin Babalola Kamar Odunsi representing Ogun West all won on the platform of Action Congress of Nigeria.

The 2023 Nigerian Senate elections were held on 25 February 2023 in all 109 senatorial districts where voters elected senators using first-past-the-post voting. The last regular senatorial elections for all districts were in 2019.

The 2007 Nigerian Senate election in Borno State was held on April 21, 2007, to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Borno State. Omar Hambagda representing Borno South, Maina Maaji Lawan representing Borno North and Kaka Mallam Yale representing Borno Central all won on the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party.

The 2023 Nigerian elections were held in large part on 25 February and 11 March 2023. The president and vice president were elected on 25 February, with incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari ineligible to run, being term-limited. Additionally, there were also elections on the same day for the Senate and the House of Representatives. On 11 March, twenty-eight gubernatorial elections were held alongside elections to state houses of assembly in all 36 states. Three additional gubernatorial elections will be held later in the year alongside potential rerun elections for regularly scheduled elections annulled from earlier in the year.

The 2023 Nigerian Senate elections in Borno State will be held on 25 February 2023, to elect the 3 federal Senators from Borno State, one from each of the state's three senatorial districts. The elections will coincide with the 2023 presidential election, as well as other elections to the Senate and elections to the House of Representatives; with state elections being held two weeks later. Primaries were held between 4 April and 9 June 2022.
