Brian Norwood (born August 12, 1965) is an American football coach. He currently serves as defensive backs coach, assistant head coach, and defensive passing game coordinator at UCLA. [1] Prior to that, he most recently was the co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach with Navy Midshipmen football. [2] Previously, Norwood served as co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach with Bill Snyder at Kansas State Wildcats football [3] and Philip Montgomery at Tulsa Golden Hurricane football. [4] This was after holding the position of assistant head coach to Art Briles at Baylor University. [5] Both Norwood and Briles served as assistants to Mike Leach at Texas Tech in 2000. [6] Norwood was also an assistant to Joe Paterno at Penn State from 2001 to 2007. [2]
Norwood grew up in Prince George's County, Maryland, where he attended Georgetown University basketball camps and met then-coach John Thompson. [7] With his father serving in the Air Force, his family moved to Hawaii in Norwood's sophomore year of high school. [7] Norwood played cornerback and safety at the University of Hawaii and graduated with a bachelor's degree in communication in 1988. [2] In high school and college, he was best friends with Ken Niumatalolo, [7] now the head coach who hired him at Navy. [2] After college, Norwood worked for United Airlines for a year before playing football the Canadian Football League with the Calgary Stampeders. [7] His football playing career came to an end when he was diagnosed with diabetes. [7]
Norwood and his wife, Tiffiney, met and started dating in high school in Hawaii. [7] They have five children: Gabe, Jordan, Levi, Brianna and Zac. [2]
Norwood's son Gabe, was a member of the George Mason Patriots men's basketball team that advanced to the 2006 NCAA Final Four. [2] He is currently playing for the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in the Philippine Basketball Association and a current member of the Philippine national basketball team. His second son, Jordan, played wide receiver at Penn State and was a wide receiver for the Denver Broncos. [2] His third son, Levi, was a receiver for Baylor University. [8] His only daughter, Brianna, attended George Mason University, where she studied sports management and was on the dance team. Brianna worked for the Washington Nationals during the 2012, 2013 and 2014 seasons, meeting Nationals center fielder Michael A. Taylor, now her fiancé. [9] His youngest son, Zac, played basketball for Midway High School in Waco, Texas. [10] [11]
The Baylor Bears are the athletic teams that represent Baylor University. The teams participate in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) as one of only three private school members of the Big 12 Conference. Prior to joining the Big 12, Baylor was a member of the Southwest Conference from their charter creation in 1914 until its dissolution in 1996. Baylor is also a founding member of the Big 12 Conference.
Phil Bennett is a retired American football coach and former player. He was most recently the Interim Head Coach at North Texas. Prior to this, he spent three seasons out of coaching. He has previously served as the defensive coordinator at Arizona State Sun Devils in 2017, the defensive coordinator for the Baylor Bears from 2011-2016, and was interim head coach of the Pittsburgh Panthers during their 2011 BBVA Compass Bowl win over Kentucky after serving as defensive coordinator of the Panthers for three seasons. Prior to coaching the Panthers, he served as the head football coach at Southern Methodist University (SMU) from 2002 to 2007. Before his stint at SMU, he served as an assistant coach at seven different colleges.
Arthur Ray Briles is an American football coach who is currently the head coach for the Guelfi Firenze in the Italian Football League. Briles was the head coach of the Houston Cougars from 2002 to 2007 and the Baylor Bears from 2008 to 2015. His college coaching career ended with his dismissal from the team in 2015 as a result of the Baylor University sexual assault scandal. He is the author of Beating Goliath: My Story of Football and Faith (2014). He is the subject of a biography written by Nick Eatman titled Looking Up: My Journey from Tragedy to Triumph (2013).
Michael Todd Graham is an American football coach and former player. He was most recently the head football coach at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (2020–2021). Graham has served as the head football coach at Rice University (2006), the University of Tulsa (2007–2010), the University of Pittsburgh (2011), and Arizona State University (2012–2017).

David Christopher Thurmond is an American football coach. He is an offensive analyst at Oklahoma State University, a position he has held since 2017. Thurmond served as the interim head football coach at the University of Houston for the final game of the 2007 season, the 2007 Texas Bowl.
The Tulsa Golden Hurricane football program represents the University of Tulsa in college football at the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) level. Tulsa has competed in the American Athletic Conference since the 2014 season and was previously a member of Conference USA (C-USA). The team is led by head coach Kevin Wilson. Tulsa plays its home games at Skelly Field at H. A. Chapman Stadium in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The University of Tulsa has the smallest undergraduate enrollment of all schools that participate at the FBS level.
The 2008 Baylor Bears football team represented Baylor University in the 2008 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The team was led by head coach Art Briles in his first year in the position. They played their home games at Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco, Texas.
The 2008 Houston Cougars football team, also known as the Houston Cougars, Houston, or UH, represented the University of Houston in the 2008 NCAA Division I FBS football season. It was the 63rd year of season play for Houston. The team was coached by first-year head football coach, Kevin Sumlin whose previous position was as co-offensive coordinator for the Oklahoma Sooners. He replaced Art Briles. The team played its home games at Robertson Stadium, a 32,000-person capacity stadium on-campus in Houston. Competing against the Air Force Falcons in the 2008 Armed Forces Bowl, the Cougars won their first bowl game since 1980, and broke the longest current bowl game losing streak in Division I FBS football at that time. In addition, Houston defeated two nationally ranked opponents, which the Cougars hadn't achieved since their 1984 season.
Jordan Shea Rashad Norwood is a Filipino-American former professional football player who was a wide receiver and punt returner for eight seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He was signed by the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2009. He played college football at Penn State.

Matthew Kenneth Rhule is an American college football coach and former linebacker. He is the head football coach for the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, a position he has held since 2023. He was also the head football coach for Temple University from 2013 to 2016, Baylor University from 2017 to 2019, and the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League (NFL). Rhule played linebacker at Penn State from 1994 to 1997.

Thomas E. "Ted" Plumb is a former American football player and coach. His playing career ended after a neck injury in training camp as he looked like a promising young receiver for the Buffalo Bills out of Baylor University. Plumb served as the wide receivers coach with the "Monsters of the Midway" Chicago Bears, and he served as the director of pro scouting for "The Greatest Show on Turf" 2000 St. Louis Rams. Plumb retired after that 2000 season to his home in Alba, Texas.
The Baylor University sexual assault scandal concerned numerous sexual and non-sexual assaults by Baylor University students, mostly players on the school's football team, and efforts by school officials to conceal them, from about 2012 to 2016.

He is the head football coach for Mississippi State University, a position he has held since 2024, earning an annual salary of $4.5 million. He has previously served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Oklahoma, an assistant coach at the University of Mississippi, Baylor University and University of Central Florida (UCF).
