Brick Chapel is an unincorporated community in Monroe Township, Putnam County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. [1]
A post office called Brick Chapel was established in 1873, and was discontinued in 1905. [2] The community took its name from the nearby Brick Chapel church. [3]
Putnam County is a county located in the U.S. state of Indiana. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 36,726. The county seat is Greencastle. The county was named for Israel Putnam, a hero in the French and Indian War and a general in the American Revolutionary War. The county was created in 1821 and organized in April 1822.
Greencastle is a city in Greencastle Township, Putnam County, Indiana, United States, and the county seat of Putnam County. It is located near Interstate 70 approximately halfway between Terre Haute and Indianapolis in the west-central portion of the state. The city is the home of DePauw University. The population was 9,820 at the 2020 census.
Lyles Consolidated School is a historic school in Lyles Station, Indiana. The third school to be located in Lyles Station, it was opened in 1919 and used until 1958. Abandoned for nearly forty years, it had deteriorated almost to the point of total collapse by 1997. The Lyles Station Historic Preservation Corporation was founded in June 1997, to preserve and promote the history of the Lyles Station community. Its major project was restoration of the schoolhouse, intending to use it as a living history museum to educate others both about Lyles Station's history and the daily school routine in the early twentieth century. The school was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. Restoration of the site was completed in 2003.
Monroe Township is one of thirteen townships in Putnam County, Indiana. As of the 2010 census, its population was 1,569 and it contained 672 housing units.
Cassella is an unincorporated community in Marion Township, Mercer County, Ohio, United States. Located at 40°24′22″N84°33′8″W, it lies at an elevation of 955 feet (291 m). Situated at the intersection of State Route 119 and Cassella-Montezuma Road in western Marion Township, it lies in the headwaters of Beaver Creek to the south of the city of Celina, the county seat of Mercer County. Brick Chapel United Methodist Church, also known as Montgomery Chapel, is a historic Methodist church located in Monroe Township, Putnam County, Indiana. The church was built in 1872, and extensively remodeled in 1912 in the Renaissance Revival style. A Sunday School addition was built in 1956. It features a large stained glass window, recessed arches, and an entrance tower. Also on the property is the contributing church cemetery established in 1839, with over 2,000 burials.
Roberts Park Methodist Episcopal Church, whose present-day name is Roberts Park United Methodist Church, was dedicated on August 27, 1876, making it one of the oldest church remaining in downtown Indianapolis. Diedrich A. Bohlen, a German-born architect who immigrated to Indianapolis in the 1850s, designed this early example of Romanesque Revival architecture. The church is considered one of Bohlen's major works. Constructed of Indiana limestone at Delaware and Vermont Streets, it has a rectangular plan and includes a bell tower on the southwest corner. The church is known for its interior woodwork, especially a pair of black-walnut staircases leading to galleries (balconies) surrounding the interior of three sides of its large sanctuary. The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 19, 1982. It is home to one of several Homeless Jesus statues around the world, this one located behind the church on Alabama Street.
Mount Pisgah Lutheran Church, also known in its early years as the First Lutheran Church and First English Lutheran Church and more recently as The Sanctuary on Penn, is located at 701 North Pennsylvania Street in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. The historic church was built by the city's first Lutheran congregation, which organized in 1837, and was its third house of worship. The former church, whose present-day name is The Sanctuary on Penn, is operated as a for-profit event venue.
