Portland Mills is an unincorporated community in Clinton Township, Putnam County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. [1]
A post office was established at Portland Mills in 1837, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1904. [2]

The county was named for Israel Putnam, a hero in the French and Indian War and a general in the American Revolutionary War. The county was created in 1821 and organized in April 1822.

It is located near Interstate 70 approximately halfway between Terre Haute and Indianapolis in the west-central portion of the state. The city is the home of DePauw University. State Road 26 is an east–west discontinuous state road in the central part of the US state of Indiana. The western end of the western segment is at the Illinois border, where it continues as Illinois Route 9. The highway passes through rural areas of Warren and Tippecanoe counties, before ending near West Lafayette. The eastern segment begins at an interchange with Interstate 65 (I-65) and heads east passing through the cities of Kokomo, Hartford City, and Portland, before ending at the Ohio border, where it continues east as Ohio State Route 119. The road covers a distance of about 150.1 miles (241.6 km), passing through mostly rural areas.

From 2003 to 2013 the district was based primarily in the central part of the state, and consisted of all of Boone, Clinton, Hendricks, Morgan, Lawrence, Montgomery, and Tippecanoe counties and parts of Fountain, Johnson, Marion, Monroe, and White counties. The district surrounded Indianapolis including the suburban area of Greenwood and encompassed the more exurban areas of Crawfordsville and Bedford, as well as the college town of Lafayette-West Lafayette, containing Purdue University.

Cagles Mill Lake, also known as Cataract Lake, is a reservoir located near Cataract, Indiana in Lieber State Recreation Area, in west central Indiana on the borders of Putnam and Owen counties. It is alimented from the north by Mill Creek and drains out through to the Eel River to its south, which then makes its way to the White River. Indiana State Road 42 once went through where Cataract Lake is now and currently has a new, entirely different route on the upper area from its original route.
The Portland Mills Covered Bridge is the second oldest covered bridge in Parke County, Indiana, being built the same year as the Crooks Covered Bridge. It is a single span Burr Arch Truss covered bridge that was built by Henry Wolf in 1856.

Cunot is an unincorporated community in Jackson Township, Owen County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. It lies near the intersection of Indiana Highway 42 and Indiana Highway 243, which is a community about twenty miles north of the city of Spencer, the county seat of Owen County. Its elevation is 722 feet, and it is located at 39°27′23″N86°51′17″W. Although this community is located within Owen County on its northern boundary, it has an address of Cloverdale, Indiana, in Putnam County, which is about six miles northeast of the community.

Heritage Lake is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Floyd Township, Putnam County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. Its population was 2,880 as of the 2010 census. The community is located in eastern Putnam County on the shores of its namesake lake. The lake is 318 acres in size.
