The Buffalo mayoral election of 1997 took place on November 4, 1997 and resulted in incumbent mayor Anthony Masiello winning a second term over former mayor Jimmy Griffin and two other opponents. [1]

Anthony M. Masiello was Mayor of Buffalo, New York from 1994 to 2005. Prior to being mayor, he served as a New York State Senator.

James Donald "Jimmy" Griffin was an American politician who served in the New York State Senate and then for 16 years as the Mayor of Buffalo, New York (1978–93). He later returned to public life serving as a member of the Buffalo Common Council.

An election for Mayor of New York City was held on November 7, 2017. Incumbent Democrat Bill de Blasio won reelection to a second term with 66.5% of the vote against Republican Nicole Malliotakis.

The Richmond, Virginia mayoral election of 2016 took place on November 8, 2016. Voters elected the Mayor of Richmond, members of the Richmond City Council, as well as several other local officials. In an officially nonpartisan, three-way race, Levar Stoney, the former state Secretary of the Commonwealth defeated Jack Berry, former Hanover County Administrator, and Joe Morrissey, former delegate of the Virginia House of Delegates. Former councilperson, Michelle Mosby, finished in a distant third. On January 1, 2017, Stoney took office as the 80th mayor of Richmond, Virginia.

2018 San Francisco mayoral special election

A special election was held for Mayor of the City and County of San Francisco on June 5, 2018. The winner of the election will serve until 2020, filling the unexpired term of Ed Lee, who was elected in 2011 and 2015, and died in office on December 12, 2017. Upon Lee's death, London Breed, President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, became Acting Mayor of San Francisco, but a vote of six supervisors replaced Breed with Supervisor Mark Farrell. The mayoral election was held concurrently with the statewide direct primary election. In San Francisco, the election for the eighth district member of the board of supervisors was also on the ballot.

1997 Boston mayoral election

The Boston mayoral election of 1997 occurred on Tuesday, November 4, 1997. Incumbent Thomas Menino ran unopposed, and was re-elected to his second term; he received 71 percent of the vote. This was the first time an incumbent Mayor of Boston faced no opposition in a general election.
