Angela Kariuki well known as Camille Storm, is a Kenyan music executive, journalist, [1] talent developer, publicist, entrepreneur, and curator, pioneering the East African pop culture. [2] She is the founder of Camille & Co., and a music journalist, and pop culture contributor for OkayAfrica, [3] and The Fader. [4] In 2022, Camille joined All Africa Music Awards, as one of its juries for East Africa. [5] [6]

Early life

Angela Kariuki was born in Nairobi, Kenya, where she had her education (primary, secondary, and tertiary), before gaining admission into the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, where she studied Computer Science, and obtained her B.Sc in Computer Science. [7]

Career

In 2011, Angela (alias. Camille Storm) started up a music blog called The Camille Way, [8] in which she published critiques and music reviews. In 2018, she launched her career as a music journalist for Up Magazine, Boiler Room, Daily Nation, Thought Catalog, OkayAfrica, The Fader, and Coeval Magazine. [8] She founded Camille & Co., [9] an entertainment, and music recording company [2] whose services include: public relations, talent management, A&R consulting and bookings, with a division for music distribution in 2018.

She began her A&R and public relations career with clients including Mayorkun, Blaqbonez, Lojay, Bad Boy Timz, WANI, Triller Inc., Mdundo, Mavin Records, and Chocolate City. [2] [9] [6] On 29 March 2019, OkayAfrica announced Camille, as the curator of the Hand-Forged In Kenya, [10] a music festival created to celebrate East African pop culture through music. The festival is supported by OkayAfrica, The Alchemist Bar, and Bateleur Brewery. On 6 April 2019, the first edition was held in Nairobi, with Kenya's fast-rising talents headlining the show. [11] On 25 April 2019, she appeared on Push Good Music, a radio show on The Beat 99.9 FM Lagos, alongside Mr. P, with show host Douglas Jekan. [12]

On 24 July 2020, she announced the launch of Camille & Co. Distro, [13] a primary music distribution division of Camille & Co.. C&C distribution (aka Camille & Co. Distro) services include music licensing, and music promotion. [13] On 4 December 2020, Camille was cited as one of The music power players of 2020 by People Daily Kenya. [14] On 20 January 2022, The Native listed her among the 10 African Music Executives To Keep Tabs On. [15] In August 2022, she joined AFRIMA, as its jury Member for East Africa. [5] On 9 January 2023, Camille Storm appeared as one of five judges on the Booming on Boomplay music competition, hosted by the media streaming and download company Boomplay. [16]

<i>Afrikan Sauce</i> 2019 studio album by Sauti Sol

Afrikan Sauce is the fourth studio album by Kenyan band Sauti Sol, released on their eponymous record label Sauti Sol Entertainment. Primarily an Afropop and R&B record, Afrikan Sauce marked a departure from the traditional acoustic sound of their previous albums. It features guest appearances from Patoranking, Tiwa Savage, Burna Boy, Vanessa Mdee, Yemi Alade, Khaligraph Jones, Nyashinski, Bebe Cool, Mi Casa, Toofan, Jah Prayzah and C4 Pedro. The album comprises 13 tracks and was supported by the previously released singles "Melanin", "Girl Next Door", "Afrikan Star", "Short N Sweet" and "Tujiangalie". Afikan Sauce received positive reviews from music critics, who characterized it as a "game changer" and commended it for having "substantial replay value". The album won Album of the Year in Africa at the 2019 All Africa Music Awards.

Zuhura Othman Soud better known by her stage name Zuchu, is a Tanzanian singer and songwriter born in Zanzibar. She is based in Dar es Salaam and signed to WCB Wasafi record label. She was awarded the Silver Plaque Button by YouTube for hitting 100,000 subscribers within a week. She became the first East African female artist to reach that milestone within a week. She also became the first East African female artist to reach 1 million subscribers on YouTube 11 months later. In 2020 Zuchu was named by AFRIMMA as the winner of the Emerging Artist Award.

Abiola Ahmed Akinbiyi, professionally known as Bella Shmurda, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter from Ikorodu, Lagos. Chukwuka Ekweani is a Nigerian singer-songwriter and record producer signed to Warner Music South Africa and Atlantic Records. He was formerly signed to Chocolate City, a member of Warner Music Group independent label services ADA. His international hit single "Love Nwantiti", also known as "Love Nwantiti ", was released in 2019 by Chocolate City. On 29 March 2022, the song debuted at number one, following the launch of the Billboard Afrobeats chart. On 9 May 2022, it became the first-ever African song to surpass one billion streams on Spotify and has since been deemed "the biggest hit in African history".

Kenned David Sanga, also known by his pseudonym "Director Kenny", Tanzanian music video director, cinematographer and film director from Dar es salaam, Tanzania.

The 2021 All Africa Music Awards, were held on November 21st, at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos, Nigeria. This marked the fifth time in eight years that the venue is hosting the show. The show was hosted by South African actress Pearl Thusi, and British-Congolese comedian Eddie Kadi.
