Camp Freddy was an American hard rock supergroup consisting of established musicians who played rock covers at various shows around the United States from 2002 through 2014. The band consisted of core members Matt Sorum on drums, Dave Navarro and Billy Morrison on guitars, Donovan Leitch on vocals, and Chris Chaney on bass. Each performance featured guest appearances from well-known musicians and singers. [1]

History

The band's name is derived from a character in the 1969 film The Italian Job . [2] Guitarist Billy Morrison described them as: "...not a band, but it is also way more than a jam session; Camp Freddy is an 'Occasional Happening', a freak of (Hollywood) nature." The group often played secret shows and other small appearances at charity events. [2] On Saturday evenings, band members—usually Morrison and Navarro—hosted a radio show from 6:00-8:00 on the Los Angeles–based Indie 103.1 FM radio station. [2]

On January 28, 2005, the group performed a benefit concert for the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami at the Key Club in Los Angeles, which featured guest appearances from Courtney Love, Lemmy, Linda Perry, and Slash. [3]

In March 2006, Scott Weiland joined as a core member and vocalist for the band until April 2008, when his decision to leave Velvet Revolver for Stone Temple Pilots caused tension between him and Matt Sorum.[ citation needed ] His departure from the group was announced on the April 2, 2008, edition of Camp Freddy Radio.[ citation needed ] Camp Freddy, with producer Mike Clink, were reportedly recording an album that would mirror their live shows, with guests performing on each track.[ citation needed ] So far, two tracks have been released: Cheap Trick's "Surrender" and Slade's "Merry Xmas Everybody" (2008). [4]

In 2009, Billy Morrison stated that "there will be a record. One day! When we all get around to finishing what we started." [5] In April 2010, the group played a show at an IZOD IndyCar Series event, which featured guest performances from Lemmy and Courtney Love. [6]

In December 2012, the band had a residency at The Roxy in Los Angeles, which lasted for three nights, leading up to Christmas Day, featuring guest appearances from Tom Morello, Zakk Wylde, and Lana Del Rey. [7] The following December, the group had another residency at the Roxy, with guest appearances by Billy Ray Cyrus and Courtney Love. [8] The band's final show was on December 31, 2013. [9]

On January 24, 2014, the group announced they would no longer perform under the name Camp Freddy, instead launching a new cover group called Royal Machines. [10]

It was founded by Sharon Osbourne and her husband Ozzy Osbourne, both of whom also organised each yearly tour with their son Jack Osbourne, and was held almost annually between 1996 and 2018. The Ozzfest tour featured bands of a variety of genres within heavy metal and hard rock, including alternative metal, thrash metal, industrial metal, metalcore, hardcore punk, deathcore, nu metal, death metal, post-hardcore, gothic metal and black metal. Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath played the tour several times over the years.

The band formed in 2002 and was active until 2008, when Weiland left the band abruptly to rejoin Stone Temple Pilots.

He is best known as both a former member of the hard rock band Guns N' Roses, with whom he recorded three studio albums, and as a member of the supergroup Velvet Revolver. Sorum is currently on tour with Billy Gibbons, with whom he also records, is a member of the touring project Kings of Chaos, and is a former member of both The Cult and Y Kant Tori Read. Sorum was also a member of Guns N' Roses side projects, Slash's Snakepit and Neurotic Outsiders, and has released two solo albums, Hollywood Zen (2004) and Stratosphere (2014). He was the touring drummer for the supergroup Hollywood Vampires from 2015 to 2017. "Hellraiser" is a song written by Ozzy Osbourne, Zakk Wylde, and Lemmy Kilmister. The song was recorded by Osbourne for his 1991 album No More Tears and also by Motörhead for their 1992 March ör Die album. Motörhead's version was released as a single.

Two music videos were also produced to accompany the song's release.

"Stillborn" is a song by American heavy metal band Black Label Society from the album The Blessed Hellride. It was also released as a single. Zakk Wylde's own vocal style also became quite similar to Ozzy Osbourne's for this record, while Osbourne was featured in the song on chorus singing with Wylde the lines, "The feelings I once felt are now Dead and gone. I've waited here for you for so very long."

The Ozzy and Friends Tour is a concert tour that replaced the majority of the original 2012 dates of the Black Sabbath Reunion Tour.

The Not in This Lifetime... Tour was a concert tour by hard rock band Guns N' Roses, spanning from April 1, 2016, to November 2, 2019. It featured classic lineup members Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan, marking the first time since the Use Your Illusion Tour in 1993 that the three performed together. After the previous tour in 2014, guitarists DJ Ashba & Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal, bassist Tommy Stinson and keyboardist Chris Pitman left Guns N' Roses, leaving the band with several open spots. Former members Slash and McKagan rejoined the band and Melissa Reese joined as keyboardist. The group embarked on a world tour that spanned all continents except Antarctica. They performed 175 shows making it their third longest tour ever, just behind the Use Your Illusion Tour and the Chinese Democracy Tour. The group welcomed former drummer Steven Adler to the stage for several shows as a guest spot, the first time he had played with the group since 1990. The tour has been a financial success, grossing over $584.2 million, making it the fourth-highest-grossing concert tour of all time. The tour was 2016's highest-earning per-city global concert tour as well as the fourth-highest-grossing overall that year. In 2017, the tour ranked as the second highest grossing worldwide tour. The tour was honored at the Billboard Live Music Awards in November 2017, winning Top Tour/Top Draw and being nominated for Top Boxscore.
