Carmen Bunaciu (born 15 September 1961) is a retired Romanian swimmer who won four bronze medals in the 100 m and 200 m backstroke at the European and World Championships of 1977–1982. [2] She also competed in these events at the 1980 and 1984 Summer Olympics and finished fourth three times. [3]

During her career she won 70 national titles and set 39 national records; [1] as of 2012, her record in the 50 m butterfly set in 1986 remained unbeaten. [4] Her bronze medal in 1982 was the first Romanian swimming title at World Championships. [5]

In 1968 she started swimming in the CSS Sibiu club, and in 1974 moved to Bucharest to study in a boarding school. [6] There she gained 19 cm within four years, reaching a height of 1.91 m (6 ft 3 in). [4] In 1977, she became the first Romanian female athlete to swim 100 m within one minute. [1]

After retirement from senior swimming in 1986 she worked as a swimming coach at Dinamo București, the club where she trained for 12 years. Between 1989 and 1992 she was also the head coach of the national team. She still swims daily, but does not compete due to problems with her back. [1] [5] [6]

Savard also holds the Canadian junior butterfly record in the 200-metre event. She won the gold medal at the 100-metre butterfly event at the 2013 Summer Universiade, held in Kazan. Luminiţa Liliana Dobrescu is a retired Romanian freestyle swimmer who won four medals at the 1987, 1991 and 1993 European Aquatics Championships. She also participated in the 1988, 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympics in various individual freestyle and team relay events; her best achievement was fifth place in the 200 m freestyle in 1988. Between 1986 and 1993, she won seven national titles.

Alexandra Hauka Nitta, usually referred to as "Sandra" or "Sandy" is an American former competition swimmer who represented the United States in the 100-meter breaststroke as a 15-year-old at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. Highly instrumental in the development and advancement of women's Water Polo in America, she had a forty-year career as a water polo coach, and administrator with an induction into the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame in 1998. In her longest coaching assignments, she was the US Women’s National Team Water Polo coach from 1980-1994, and coached Team Vegas/Henderson from 1994-99 and from 2000-2014, later serving as a Director.

Penelope Oleksiak is a Canadian competitive swimmer. Her country's most decorated Olympian, Oleksiak rose to fame during the 2016 Summer Olympics, where she became the first Canadian to win four medals in the same Summer Games, and the country's youngest Olympic champion with her gold medal win in the 100 m freestyle. She was the first athlete born in the 2000s to claim an Olympic gold medal in an individual event. Kylie Jacqueline Masse is a Canadian competitive swimmer. She is a four-time Olympic medallist, having tied for the bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the 100 m backstroke and then won silver medals at the 2020 Summer Olympics in both the 100 m and 200 m backstroke and a bronze medal in the 4x100 m medley. Masse is a two-time world champion in the 100 m backstroke, breaking the eight year old world record in the process, which she held until July 2018. While winning her title in Budapest at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships she became the first Canadian woman to become a world champion in a swimming event. Rebecca Smith is a Canadian swimmer. She represented Canada at the 2020 Summer Olympics, winning a silver medal in the 4×100 metre freestyle relay, and is a multi-medalist at the World Aquatics Championships, World Swimming Championships, Commonwealth Games, and Pan Pacific Swimming Championships.

Kayla Noelle Sanchez is a Filipino-Canadian swimmer. A member of the Canadian national team until 2022, she has represented Canada at the Olympic and World championship level, and is a two-time Olympic medalist. She is one of Canada's most prominent Filipino Canadian athletes.

Hannah Margaret McNair "Maggie" Mac Neil is a Canadian competitive swimmer. A 100 metre butterfly event specialist, she is the 2020 Olympic champion, 2019 World (LC) champion, two-time World (SC) champion, 2022 Commonwealth champion, and 2023 Pan American champion. She holds the current Americas record (55.59s), the short course world record, the Commonwealth record, and Pan American record in the event.

Patrick Sebastian Dinu is a Romanian competitive swimmer specializing in sprint freestyle events. At the 2022 World Junior Championships, he won a gold medal in the 4×100-metre freestyle relay, a silver medal in the 4×100-metre mixed freestyle relay, and placed fifth in the final of the 100-metre freestyle. He is a gold medalist in the 4×100-metre freestyle relay at the European Junior Championships in 2022 and silver medalist in 2021, as well as a silver medalist in the 4×100-metre mixed freestyle relay and in 2022.
