The unincorporated community of Carter lies at the three-way junction of County Route 11 (Alexander-Helvetia road), Natural Bridge Road, and Waterloo Road.
Carter was named for a prominent family of Baptist preachers originally from Albemarle County, Virginia that settled in Sago, West Virginia in the 1840s. Henry T. Carter at first resided on the farm of a Mr. Alfred Morgan in the Sago area. He later bought land about two miles south and reared a large family. He had married a Miss Emerson. He was a highly respected citizen of the community and was a very industrious man. He was renowned for his reliable memory. For many years, he served as one of the deacons for the Sago Baptist church. His ten children were named John, Mary, Henry, Thomas Addison, Mardonius, George, Page, Eliza, Lena, and Delia. Mardonius died young from scarlet fever.
Upshur County is a county in the U.S. state of West Virginia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 24,254. Its county seat is Buckhannon. The county was formed in 1851 from Randolph, Barbour, and Lewis counties and named for Abel Parker Upshur, a distinguished statesman and jurist of Virginia. Upshur served as United States Secretary of State and Secretary of the Navy under President John Tyler.

Red House is a small unincorporated community located in Putnam County in the U.S. state of West Virginia. The community is divided into two distinct areas: Red House (Proper) which follows the Kanawha River Valley along WV 62, and Red House Hill along WV 34 which is in the hills just off the Kanawha River Valley. The Red House Post Office is still in service and was founded on September 26, 1840. Some say the town was named for a red house which stood at the town site, while others believe nearby red rock formations account for the name.
Henry Carter Stuart was an American businessman and politician from Virginia. Between 1914 and 1918, he served as the 47th Governor of Virginia, a period which encompassed World War I.
Williams Carter Wickham was a Virginia lawyer, plantation owner and politician. At the Virginia Secession Convention of 1861, Wickham voted against secession, but after fellow delegates and voters approved secession, he became an important Confederate cavalry general. After the American Civil War, Wickham became a Republican and served in the Virginia Senate as well as became President of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway company.
Neals Run is an unincorporated community in Hampshire County in the U.S. state of West Virginia. Neals Run is located south of Little Cacapon near the confluence of the Little Cacapon River and Neals Run on Spring Gap-Neals Run Road. The community derives its name from the stream.
Lott Cary was an African-American Baptist minister and lay physician who was a missionary leader in the founding of the colony of Liberia on the west coast of Africa in the 1820s. He founded the first Baptist church there in 1822, now known as Providence Baptist Church of Monrovia. He served as the colony's acting governor from August 1828 to his death in November of that year.
Vernon Johns was an American minister based in the South and a pioneer in the civil rights movement. He is best known as the pastor (1947–52) of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. He was succeeded there by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Belmont is an unincorporated community in Spotsylvania County, in the U.S. state of Virginia. It is marked with a highway sign at the intersection of Belmont Road and Orange Springs Road by the Virginia Department of Transportation, however is marked as being the intersection with Belmont Road and Jones Powell Road by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The immediate area has Fletcher's Store and the Belmont Christmas Tree farm. Further south, there are other buildings identifying with Belmont, such as Belmont Baptist Church, the Belmont Ruritan Community Building where the Belmont Ruritan Club meets each evening at 7 p.m. and serves as the district's polling place for registered voters, and the Belmont Fire & Rescue station manned by Spotsylvania County Volunteer Company 9.
Morrison City is an unincorporated community in Sullivan County, Tennessee, United States. Named for pioneer settler Peter Morison, Morrison City developed with the industrial growth of nearby Kingsport, Tennessee in the 1930s. Peter Morison, his wife Mary Kirkpatrick Morison, and other relatives, are buried in the Morrison Chapel Cemetery, in the heart of the community. They were awarded a land grant by the state of North Carolina, which controlled the area prior to Tennessee Statehood, in 1780. This was to recognize distinguished service during the Battle of King's Mountain.
