Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Station (often abbreviated as CSTPS) is a thermal power plant located in Chandrapur district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The power plant is one of the coal based power plants of MAHAGENCO. The coal for the power plant is sourced from Durgapur and Padmapur Collieries of Western Coalfields Limited. [1] The plant was officially inaugurated by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on 8 October 1984. [2]

With the total capacity of 3340MW, [3] the plant is the largest power plant in the Maharashtra. It accounts for more than 25% of Maharashtra's total needs.[ citation needed ] The plant gets water supply from Erai Dam when in normal conditions. In the summer of 2010 due to less water in Erai, the plant also got water supply from Chargaon Dam. [4]

Koradi Thermal Power Station (KTPS) is located at Koradi near Nagpur, Maharashtra. The power plant is one of the four major power plants in Vidarbha – a power surplus region of India. The power station began operations in 1974 and is one of the nine active power stations operated by Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (Prajot), a subsidiary of Government of Maharashtra owned Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB). The plant operates 4 units and has a total power generation capacity of 2190 MW. A proposed 440 kilovolt high power transmission line from Koradi to Bhusawal would join Nagpur with Mumbai. KTPS campus also contains training institute of MahaGenco for middle and senior level engineers, technicians and other staff.

The Nagpur–Bhusawal section is part of the Howrah–Nagpur–Mumbai line and connects Nagpur and Bhusawal both in the Indian state of Maharashtra. This section also has a number of branch lines. Erai river is a tributary of Wardha river and is an important river in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra. The river originates near Kasarbodi village of Chimur taluka and meets Wardha river near Hadasti village. It has a total length of 78 km and lies entirely within Chandrapur district.
