Charles Adrian MacFie Maynard, [1] known as Charlie Maynard,is a British politician who has been the Member of Parliament for Witney since 2024. A member of the Liberal Democrats,he gained the seat from Robert Courts,a member of the Conservative Party. [2]
Maynard studied geography at the University of Oxford (1990-1993). [3]
Maynard co-founded the international investment advice company BDA Partners in 1996,and is currently listed as "Non-Executive Chairman" &a "Senior Advisor" at BDA [4]
He chaired the Witney Oxford Transport Group,which hopes to rebuild a railway linking Carterton,Witney,Eynsham and Oxford,from October 2020 to November 2023. [5]
He has been a member of West Oxfordshire District Council,elected in 2022 to represent Standlake,Aston &Stanton Harcourt ward. [6]
Maynard was elected as Member of Parliament for Witney in the 2024 general election. He had 41.2% of the vote,and a majority of 4,339 over the incumbent Conservative member,Robert Courts,the then Solicitor General for England and Wales,who had represented the seat since 2016. Maynard is married to Sophie. They live within his constituency,in the parish of South Leigh &High Cogges and have hosted refugees from Ukraine and Syria. [8]
