James MacCleary is a British Liberal Democrat politician who has served as the Member of Parliament for Lewes since July 2024, beating Conservative Maria Caulfield with a majority of almost 13,000. [1]
Before being elected as an MP, MacCleary was Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on Lewes District Council where he has been a councillor since 2019 [2] and a councillor for East Sussex County Council since 2021. [3]
MacCleary graduated from the University of Kent with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Politics and International Relations and the University of Oxford with a Master of Science (MSc) in Russian and East European Studies. [4]
