The 37th Chicago Film Critics Association Awards were presented to recognize the best in film of 2024. [1] The nominations were announced on December 10, 2024. [1] [2] The Brutalist received the most nominations with nine, followed by The Substance with seven. [1] Meanwhile, Anora , Nickel Boys and Wicked each received six nominations. [2]
The winners were subsequently announced on December 11, 2024. [3] Nickel Boys won the most awards with four wins, including three for RaMell Ross—namely Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay (the latter along with co-writer Joslyn Barnes). [4] However, The Brutalist won Best Film, as well as Best Actor for Adrien Brody. [5] A Real Pain also received two: Best Supporting Actor (Kieran Culkin) and Best Original Screenplay (Jesse Eisenberg). Marianne Raigipcien Jean-Baptiste is an English actress. She is known for her role in Mike Leigh's drama film Secrets & Lies (1996), for which she received acclaim and earned nominations for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and the Golden Globe and BAFTA Award in the same category. Jean-Baptiste is also known for her role as Vivian Johnson on the television series Without a Trace from 2002 to 2009, and has starred in television shows such as Blindspot (2015–2016) and Homecoming (2018). She has since gained praise for starring in Leigh's drama film Hard Truths (2024).

Nickel Boys is a 2024 American historical drama film based on the 2019 novel The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead. It was directed by RaMell Ross, who co-wrote the screenplay with Joslyn Barnes, and stars Ethan Herisse, Brandon Wilson, Hamish Linklater, Fred Hechinger, Daveed Diggs, and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor. The story follows two African American boys, Elwood and Turner, who are sent to an abusive reform school called the Nickel Academy in 1960s Florida. The film is inspired by the historic reform school in Florida called the Dozier School for Boys, which was notorious for abusive treatment of students.
