Comic Relief is a British charity, founded in 1985 by the comedy scriptwriter Richard Curtis and comedian Sir Lenny Henry in response to the famine in Ethiopia. The concept of Comic Relief was to get British comedians to make the public laugh, while raising money to help people around the world and in the United Kingdom. The voice-over reading out running totals was Alan Dedicoat. The 2008 event broke all previous records, with a total of £20,991,216 raised by the end of the broadcast.

The broadcast was hosted by Terry Wogan, Tess Daly and Alesha Dixon. Alan Dedicoat read out the running totals and Peter André reported from the BT Tower. The show was broadcast from BBC Television Centre in London. Dancing Pudseys were projected on to the building. The 2009 event raised £20,309,747 by the end of the broadcast, slightly under the previous year's total of £20,991,216.
Children in Need Rocks Manchester was a charity music concert held at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England, on 17 November 2011. The concert was organised by Take That singer-songwriter Gary Barlow as one of a series of events to raise money for Children in Need 2011. It became the second Children in Need Rocks concert organised by Barlow, after the Children in Need Rocks the Royal Albert Hall in 2009.

Wogan didn't present the 2015 appeal because of ill health, and later died in January 2016, making this his last one.

Children in Need 2017 was a campaign held in the United Kingdom to raise money for the charity Children in Need. It was the 38th Children in Need appeal show which was broadcast live on BBC One on the evening of Friday 17 November until the early hours of Saturday 18 November.
The Big Night In is a British telethon that was broadcast by BBC One from 7 pm to 10 pm on 23 April 2020 to support those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. It is the first joint initiative between two BBC telethon charities, Children in Need and Comic Relief. By the end of the programme, over £27.3 million had been raised. The British government promised to match all public donations if the minimum of £20 million was reached.
