China Coast Guard Academy is a higher education institution dedicated to training talents for China Coast Guard.^[1] Located in Ningbo, Zhejiang, China, the academy is known as the "cradle of border police" and is listed in the order of battle of the People's Armed Police (PAP) as a deputy corps leader grade unit. ^[2]

History

In 1982, the academy was founded as the Training Division for the Coastal Patrol of Zhejiang Provincial Contingent of the Chinese People's Armed Police (Chinese :中国人民武装警察部队浙江省总队海巡训练大队) under the Ministry of Public Security, and organised as a regiment commander level unit in the order of battle of the PAP.^[3]

In September 1983, the State Council approved the foundation of the Surface Vessel School of the People's Armed Police (Chinese :中国人民武装警察部队水面船艇学校) on the basis of the training division and under the direct supervision of the PAP headquarters. The first batch of students were enrolled in September 1985.^[3]

In August 1993, the supervising agency changed from the PAP headquarter to the Ministry of Public Security. The school was thus organised as a unit in the fight of order of the Border Defence Force of the Ministry of Public Security.^[4] In September 1997, the school began recruiting students as a post-secondary specialised school rather than as secondary specialised school in the past. In March 1999, the school formally upgraded with the approval from the Ministry of Education and became the Higher Vocational School of Coastal Police.^[4] In December 2009, with the approval from the Ministry of Education, the school was renamed as China Maritime Police Academy^[5] and began offering degree education as the only higher education institution in China to offer training for maritime law enforcement.^[3]

In August 2012, the academy became co-funded by the Ministry of Public Security, the People's Government of Zhejiang Province, the Municipal People's Government of Ningbo City.^[6] With the separation of the Coast Guard from the Border Defence Force, the academy came under PAP as part of China Coast Guard since July 2018.^[6]

Education

In 2010, the first four undergraduate programmes the academy offered included navigational technology, marine engineering, electronic science and technology, electrical information engineering.^[4] As an academy for coast guard training, academy contextualised its education for maritime law enforcement, with additional training in maritime rescue, damage control, etc.^[7]

The paramilitary forces of China are the military units and formations apart from the People's Liberation Army, the principal military force of the People's Republic of China. The 2nd Armed Police Mobile Division is a military formation of the People's Armed Police of the People's Republic of China.

The 35th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China took place on 1 October 1984. A military parade was held in Tiananmen Square in Beijing and various celebrations were conducted all over the country. China's paramount leader Deng Xiaoping inspected the troops along Chang'an Avenue in Beijing. This parade was immediately followed by a civilian parade.

The People's Armed Police Honour Guard Battalion, also known as the PAP Honor Guard is the main honor guard and police unit of the People's Armed Police of China, the country's Gendarmerie force.

The 93rd Division was created in February 1949 under the Regulation of the Redesignations of All Organizations and Units of the Army, issued by Central Military Commission on November 1, 1948,. basing on the 39th Division, 13th Column of the Huadong Field Army. Its history can be traced to the New 7th Division, Jiaodong Military District, formed in August 1947.

The Non-commissioned Officer School is a higher education institution under the People's Armed Police (PAP). Founded in 2017 through the merger of two non-commissioned officer schools in Hangzhou and Shijiazhuang, the school is headquartered in Hangzhou as the only non-commissioned officer school within the PAP.

The academic institutions of the armed forces of China include the educational institutions of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the People's Armed Police (PAP). Throughout the history of the People's Republic of China, there have been many dramatic reforms to the military education system, closing, merging, reducing and reassigning institutions. The 2017 reforms saw another massive change, as they reduced the number of PLA academic institutions from 67 to 37.
