Datong–Xi'an high-speed railway or Daxi HSR is a dual-track,electrified,high-speed rail line operated by CR Taiyuan Group and CR Xi'an Group between Datong,Shanxi and Xi'an,Shaanxi. It has a length of 859 km (534 mi) through the provinces of Shanxi and Shaanxi Province,traversing the north-south axis of the former,and will accommodate trains traveling at speeds up to 250 km/h (160 mph). Travel time between the two terminal cities will be reduced from 16.5 hours to about three hours.
Ningwu–Kelan railway or Ningke railway,is a single-track regional railroad in Shanxi Province of northern China between Ningwu and Kelan Counties. The line is 95.95 km (60 mi) long,and was built between 1967 and 1971 as a national defense railroad to support the building of the Third Front in China's mountainous interior. The Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in Kelan County,a space rocket and strategic missile launch facility,is located along route. In recent years,the railway has been used to transport growing coal output from northern Shanxi and was electrified in 2008 to increase transport capacity.
The Datong–Puzhou or Tongpu railway,is a major trunkline railroad in northern China,and the main axial railway of Shanxi Province. The railway is located entirely within Shanxi and diagonally bisects the province from Datong in the northeast to Fenglingdu,near the village of Puzhou,in the southwest corner. The line is named after Datong and Puzhou,and has a total length of 865 km (537 mi). The line is often referred to by its northern and southern halves with Taiyuan,the provincial capital as the midpoint. Southern Tongpu railway from Taiyuan to Fenglingdu is 513 km (319 mi) in length and was built from 1933 to 1935. The Northern Tongpu railway,from Datong to Taiyuan is 351 km (218 mi) in length and was built from 1933 to 1940. Major cities and towns along route include Datong,Huairen,Shuozhou,Ningwu,Yuanping,Xinzhou,Taiyuan,Yuci,Taigu,Qi County,Pingyao,Huozhou,Hongdong,Linfen,Houma and Fenglingdu.

The Jining–Datong–Yuanping high-speed railway,also referred to in Chinese under the acronym Jidayuan high-speed railway is a Chinese high-speed railway connecting Ulanqab,Inner Mongolia with Datong and Yuanping,Shanxi Province. The line runs from Ulanqab railway station in Inner Mongolia,passes through Datong,Shuozhou,and Xinzhou in Shanxi along the way,and finally connects with the Datong–Xi'an high-speed railway. The total length of the line is about 269.6 km (167.5 mi),including 197.1 km (122.5 mi) in Shanxi. One of the important parts of the Hohhot–Nanning corridor,the Datong–Yuanping section is also an important part of the Beijing–Kunming corridor. The Jining–Datong–Yuanping HSR is an important route between Inner Mongolia and the south. After completion,the travel time between Hohhot and Taiyuan will be shortened from the current 5 hours to 3 hours.
