Species

Commensalibacter is a genus of Gram-negative, aerobic and rod-shaped bacteria from the family of Acetobacteraceae which was originally isolated from Drosophila melanogaster. [1] [3] The complete genome of the type strain C. intestini A911T has been sequenced. [4]

Although originally isolated from Drosophila melanogaster , Commensalibacter intestini has been also found in honey bees and bumblebees. [5] [6] [7]

Currently, there are four species validly named: Commensalibacter intestini, Commensalibacter communis, Commensalibacter melissae, and Commensalibacter papalotli. C. communis was recently isolated from the gut of bumble bees, butterflies, fruits, and hornets. C. melissae was exclusively isolated from honeybees. Its smaller genome compared to other Commensalibacter species suggests a unique evolutionary process. C. papalotli has been isolated from the monarch butterfly, other butterflies, and has also been isolated from the Asian hornet [2] [8] .

Acetobacter is a genus of acetic acid bacteria. Acetic acid bacteria are characterized by the ability to convert ethanol to acetic acid in the presence of oxygen. Of these, the genus Acetobacter is distinguished by the ability to oxidize lactate and acetate into carbon dioxide and water. Bacteria of the genus Acetobacter have been isolated from industrial vinegar fermentation processes and are frequently used as fermentation starter cultures.

Nitrosomonas Genus of bacteria

Nitrosomonas is a genus of Gram-negative bacteria, belonging to the Betaproteobacteria. It is one of the five genera of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria and, as an obligate chemolithoautotroph, uses ammonia as an energy source and carbon dioxide as a carbon source in presence of oxygen. Nitrosomonas are important in the global biogeochemical nitrogen cycle, since they increase the bioavailability of nitrogen to plants and in the denitrification, which is important for the release of nitrous oxide, a powerful greenhouse gas. This microbe is photophobic, and usually generate a biofilm matrix, or form clumps with other microbes, to avoid light. Nitrosomonas can be divided into six lineages: the first one includes the species Nitrosomonas europea, Nitrosomonas eutropha, Nitrosomonas halophila, and Nitrosomonas mobilis. The second lineage presents the species Nitrosomonas communis, N. sp. I and N. sp. II, meanwhile the third lineage includes only Nitrosomonas nitrosa. The fourth lineage includes the species Nitrosomonas ureae and Nitrosomonas oligotropha and the fifth and sixth lineages include the species Nitrosomonas marina, N. sp. III, Nitrosomonas estuarii and Nitrosomonas cryotolerans.

Torulaspora delbrueckii Species of fungus

Torulaspora delbrueckii is a ubiquitous yeast species with both wild and anthropic habitats. The type strain of T. delbrueckii is CBS 1146T, equivalent to CLIB 230 or ATCC 10662, etc.. The type strain of T. delbrueckii CBS 1146 T was sequenced in 2009, and is composed of 8 chromosomes in addition to a mitochondrial genome.

Leuconostoc carnosum is a lactic acid bacterium; its type strain is NCFB 2776. Its genome has been sequenced. Its name derives from the fact that it was first isolated from chill-stored meats. Its significance is that it thrives in anaerobic environments with a temperature around 2 °C, thus has been known to spoil vacuum-packed meat, yet it is not pathogenic and certain strains of L. carnosum are known to produce bactericides known to inhibit or kill Listeria monocytogenes.

Psychrobacter is a genus of Gram-negative, osmotolerant, oxidase-positive, psychrophilic or psychrotolerant, aerobic bacteria which belong to the family Moraxellaceae and the class Gammaproteobacteria. The shape is typically cocci or coccobacilli. Some of those bacteria were isolated from humans and can cause humans infections such as endocarditis and peritonitis. This genus of bacteria is able to grow at temperatures between −10 and 42 °C. Rudi Rossau found through DNA-rRNA hybridization analysis that Psychrobacter belongs to the Moraxellaceae. The first species was described by Juni and Heym. Psychrobacter occur in wide range of moist, cold saline habitats, but they also occur in warm and slightly saline habitats.

Providencia sneebia is a gram-negative species of bacteria first isolated from the hemolymph of fruit flies. It has also been observed to be symbiotic with marine microalgae. The pathogen has been shown to be fatal to fruit flies without triggering a severe immune response. It has been suggested that P. sneebia is capable of active immune evasion. Thioesterases from P. sneebia have been proposed as industrial enzymes in the production of biofuels.

Weissella ceti is a Gram-positive and non-spore-forming bacterium from the genus of Weissella which was first isolated from beaked whales. Erstwhile believed that W. ceti could cause hemorrhagic illness in Rainbow trouts, however, seems to be a different species from the same genus: Weissella tructae.

Weissella bombi is a bacterium from the genus of Weissella which has been isolated from the gut of the bumblebee Bombus terrestris from Ghent in Belgium.

Ornithobacterium is a genus of Gram-negative, microaerophilic, rod-shaped bacteria from the family Weeksellaceae. It comprises two known species, O. hominis and O. rhinotracheale. Snodgrassella alvi Species of bacterium

Snodgrassella alvi is a species of Gram-negative bacteria within the Neisseriaceae and was previously the only known species of the genus Snodgrassella. It was isolated and scientifically described in 2012 by Waldan K. Kwong and Nancy A. Moran, who named the bacteria after the American entomologist Robert Evans Snodgrass.
