Conan is a 2004 action-adventure hack and slash game based on the literary character Conan the Barbarian created by Robert E. Howard. It was developed by Slovak developer Cauldron and released for the Xbox, GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Microsoft Windows in Europe.
Conan is a third-person action-adventure game with the majority of the action being real-time hack and slash combat, with additional puzzles. The player can acquire up to 14 different weapons and learn new fighting techniques similar to other role-playing video games. There are more than 70 levels, spanning from volcanoes to jungles, in which Conan faces 12 bosses and collects pieces of a legendary Atlantean sword.
There was a multiplayer mode via Xbox Live before it went offline, where players could compete in three different game modes, play in more than 16 different maps, and had 16 different characters to play as.
The events take place in the mythical era from the original books and comics known as the "Hyborian Age". When Conan sees his home village of Grannach burnt to the ground by the mysterious Vulture cult, he begins his quest for revenge against them.
Conan was developed by Cauldron. After completion of their previous game, they got the idea of making a Conan the Barbarian video game. Publisher TDK Mediactive Europe obtained the licenses for Robert E. Howard's works, enabling them to make a game based on the intellectual property. The plot was written by Jan Kanturek, a Czech translator of Howard's work, and was inspired by the novels and comics. Meanwhile, the combat and music took inspiration from the films. Conan the Barbarian is a fictional sword and sorcery hero who originated in pulp magazines and has since been adapted to books, comics, films, television programs, video games, and role-playing games. Robert E. Howard created the character in 1932 for a series of fantasy stories published in Weird Tales magazine.

The works of Robert E. Howard (1906–1936) have been adapted into multiple media, the most famous being the Conan films starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. In addition to the Conan films, other adaptations have included Kull the Conqueror (1997) and Solomon Kane (2009). In television, the anthology series Thriller (1961) led the adaptations with an episode based on the short story "Pigeons from Hell." The bulk of the adaptations have, however, been based on Conan with two animated and one live action series. Ryse: Son of Rome is a 2013 action-adventure video game developed by Crytek and published by Microsoft Studios. Set in an alternate version of Ancient Rome, Ryse follows the life of the Roman centurion Marius Titus as he becomes one of the leaders in the Roman Legion. Ascend: Hand of Kul was a 2013 free-to-play, character-action MMORPG game for the Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows. Though the beta version was available in the Xbox Live Arcade for free to Gold members, the game never saw full release. On August 18, 2014, the game was delisted from the Xbox marketplace. On August 21, 2014, it was announced the game's server will be closing November 18, 2014. The PC version was shut down on June 20, 2016.
