Cottonwood Mall is a shopping mall located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States. The mall's anchor stores are Hobby Lobby, Mor Furniture, JCPenney, Ulta Beauty, Dillard's, Regal Cinemas, Fallout Trampoline Arena, Conn's, and HomeLife Furniture. There is 1 vacant anchor store that was once Sears. The mall is the second largest mall in the state of New Mexico, after Coronado Center, with a gross leasable area of 1,041,680 square feet (96,775 m2); [1] [2] the mall's food court features a diorama ceiling depicting the city of Albuquerque. The mall is also a regular filming location on several productions, including Better Call Saul and Daybreak. It features over 100 stores and restaurants, as well as a Regal Cinemas (formerly United Artists) Theater. [3] Cottonwood Mall was managed by Washington Prime Group. As of March 2022, the mall is leased and managed by court-appointed receiver “Spinoso Real Estate Group”. The mall's parking area has several dining establishments, including BJ's Restaurant & Brewery, Buffalo Wild Wings, Red Robin, Texas Roadhouse, and New Mexican cuisine restaurants like Garduños, Los Cuates, and Range Cafe.
In May 2014, as part of Simon Property Group's spinoff of smaller malls, ownership of the mall was transferred to Simon spinoff Washington Prime Group, although Simon was retained as the mall's manager until early 2016. Washington Prime would later become WP Glimcher, and take over management of the mall. However in that same year WP Glimcher was renamed back to Washington Prime Group. In June 2021, Washington Prime Group filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. At the time, the real estate company owned 100 malls — including Cottonwood Mall. According to loan-servicer notes, Washington Prime at that point deemed Cottonwood Mall a "non- core" asset and requested the court appoint a receiver. In August 2021, Washington Prime Group indicated it would not seek to retain ownership of Cottonwood Mall, according to financial filings.
Former tenants include Sega City amusement arcade, [4] Sears which was prior a Montgomery Ward, and Macy's which was once a Foley's, and a Mervyn's. Hobby Lobby, Conn's, and Mor Furniture have since replaced Macy's and Mervyns. Sega City was converted into a second story for Regal Cinemas.
Cottonwood Mall was built on part of an 89,000-acre (360 km2) parcel of land given by King Philip IV of Spain in 1710 to Francisco Montes Vigil, who later sold the land, which included only some farmland along the Rio Grande, to Captain Juan Gonzales of the Spanish Army. The land grant is known as the "Alameda Land Grant" (alameda means "cottonwood grove" in Spanish). In 1929, 20,500 acres were purchased by Albert F. Black who established the Seven Bar Ranch. [5] The Black family built an adobe home and in 1947 a small airport which was known as the Seven Bar Airport, and later the Alameda Airport. [5] Surrounded by growing urban areas, the Black family sold off much of the remaining ranch for the development of new residential subdivisions. The Alameda Airport remained in operation until 1986. Cottonwood Mall opened in 1996 on the site of the airport. [5]
When Cottonwood Mall opened in July 1996, it was the first regional mall to open in Albuquerque in thirty years. [2] [6] To this day, and with the exception of a new mall under construction in the South Valley, it is the newest completed enclosed shopping mall in New Mexico. [7] Original anchors included Dillard's, Foley's, JCPenney, Mervyn's, and Montgomery Ward. [8] The Montgomery Ward store closed due to bankruptcy, and it was replaced by Sears, and following the closure of Mervyns in 2008 due to liquidation, its lower level became Conn's in 2013. [9] Foley's became Macy's in 2006 as part of Federated Department Stores (now Macy's inc) consolidating May's Department Stores brands which also includes Foley's, [10] However, Macy's closed in 2017. [11]
In 1999, Cottonwood Mall was one of three New Mexico malls (with the two others being Winrock Center and Coronado Center) involved in a federal lawsuit regarding free speech. The malls had their rights of activity regulation challenged after protesters attempted to hand out leaflets at the malls. The case was dismissed. [12] The 1972 case Lloyd Corp. v. Tanner states that shopping malls may limit speech activities (such as distribution of pamphlets) on premises. [13]
On May 31, 2018, it was announced that Sears would be closing as part of a plan to close 72 stores nationwide. The store closed in September 2018. [14] The former Macy's was partially converted to Hobby Lobby in 2018. [15] HomeLife Furniture and Mor Furniture took the rest of the space in 2019. [16]
The mall's food court features a diorama of Albuquerque, the Rio Grande, Sandia Mountains, West Mesa, and the mall itself. The chain restaurants in the food court include a Burger King, Charleys Philly Steaks, Keva Juice, and Potato Corner. Other restaurants include Fuji Japan (formerly Edo Japan), Paleta Bar, and Sushi Roller.
From Thanksgiving Day to New Year's Day every year, Cottonwood Mall is also home to New Mexico Book Co-Op, a locally owned bookstore which sells only local books and products; [17] such books and products are ordinarily not found in traditional bookstores. [18]
Northridge Mall is a shopping mall in Salinas, California, the largest in Monterey County. Located off Highway 101 near Boronda Road and North Main Street in the northern part of the city, the single-story structure encompasses 976,913 sq ft (90,758 m2) of retail space. Northridge Mall features more than 110 shops, two restaurants, a fast-food court with eight outlets, a Round One Entertainment, and three department stores including Hobby Lobby, JCPenney, and Macy's with one vacant anchor last occupied by Sears. It receives approximately 7.2 million visitors annually with approximately 5,800 spaces in the open-air parking lot. It's the only indoor shopping mall between San Jose and Santa Maria.

Tucson Mall is the largest shopping mall in Tucson, Arizona. Tucson Mall features over 170 stores and two levels of indoor shopping. It is anchored by Forever 21, J. C. Penney, Macy's, and Dillard's. Tucson Mall contains a food court containing several fast food restaurants, as well as "Arizona Avenue," an arcade containing Southwestern-themed items. Great Lakes Mall is a shopping mall in Mentor, Ohio on Mentor Avenue, approximately 20 miles (32 km) northeast of Cleveland. The anchor stores are Round 1 Entertainment, Dillard's, JCPenney, and Dick's Sporting Goods. There are two vacant anchor stores that were once Sears and Macy's. The first stores of the mall were opened January 17, 1961, as part of an early development of Edward J. DeBartolo Sr., owned by the Glazer–Marotta Company. Throughout the 1960s, the mall was expanded and enclosed. In 1988, a multi-year renovation occurred, which included replacing the flooring and adding a food court, and a subsequent renovation occurred in 2011. Olive Garden, BJ's Brewhouse, Hobby Lobby, Outback Steakhouse, Barnes & Noble and Atlas Cinemas Stadium 16 are located in the mall parking lot. The mall contains 1,249,574 sq ft (116,089 m2). On May 28, 2014, it was announced by Simon Property Group that they would transfer Great Lakes Mall to its new spin off Washington Prime Group. Washington Prime Group later became WP Glimcher and then back to Washington Prime Group. In 2015, Sears Holdings spun off 235 of its properties, including the Sears at Great Lakes Mall, into Seritage Growth Properties. Dillard's North closed in May 2017, consolidating the men and women's sections into one building; Sears closed in September 2017. Macy's closed in April 2021 due to a plan to close 46 stores nationwide.
Northtown Mall is a shopping mall located in Blaine, Minnesota, United States. The mall's anchor stores are Hobby Lobby, Best Buy Outlet, 2 Becker Furniture World stores, and Burlington. In addition, Northtown Mall features over 100 stores and restaurants, as well as a food court and Paladin Career and Technical High School public charter school which was open in September 2002. The mall is owned by 4th Dimension Properties. Over 5.5 million people visit the mall every year.

Mall del Norte is a super regional shopping mall in Laredo, Texas. The mall opened in 1977 and has since been renovated in 1991, 1993 (expansion), 2007, and 2012. It is located along Interstate 35 in the city's rapidly growing retail hub of town. Mall del Norte is 1,212,515 sq ft (112,646 m2) with over 160 stores, making it the 2nd largest mall in South Texas, and one of the largest malls in Texas overall. La Plaza Mall in McAllen, Texas is larger by 3,000 sq. feet.
Baybrook Mall is a shopping mall located near the Clear Lake City area in Houston, Texas; It has a Friendswood mailing address, but it is in the Houston city limits. The mall is located off Interstate 45, and it is also in proximity to Webster and the NASA Johnson Space Center. The anchor stores are Star Cinema Grill, Dave & Buster's, Dillard's, JCPenney, H&M, Macy's, and Forever 21. There is 1 vacant anchor store that was once Sears.
Coronado Center is a shopping mall in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States. Built in 1965 by the Homart Development Company, a defunct real-estate division of the department store Sears, the mall has undergone several renovations and expansions in its history which have led to it becoming the largest building by area in New Mexico. Its anchor stores include Macy's, J. C. Penney, Dick's Sporting Goods, Round One Entertainment, with two vacancies formerly occupied by Sears and Kohl's. Other major tenants include Barnes & Noble, H&M, Forever 21, The Container Store, The Cheesecake Factory, and Boot Barn. The mall features over 130 stores, including a food court, and is managed by Brookfield Properties.
Southland Mall is a shopping mall in Hayward, California owned and managed by Brookfield Properties. The mall is anchored by JCPenney, and Macy's. There is only one vacant anchor left by Sears, Hobby Lobby recently moved into the former Dick's Sporting Goods, which prior to Dick's was Kohl's, and way before Mervyn's. The mall is primarily a single-level structure, with a small lower level beneath JCPenney, a Cinemark movie theater, and free standing restaurants in the outlying parking areas. The center is located off Interstate 880 at Winton Avenue, at the western end of the city.
The Shoppes at Solana is a shopping mall in El Paso, Texas, owned and operated by Enoch Kimmelman. It is located on El Paso's west side, at Interstate 10 and Sunland Park Drive. The Shops at Nanuet is a lifestyle center located in Nanuet, New York. It is located at the intersection of New York State Route 59 and Middletown Road and is also accessible via exit 14 of the New York State Thruway. Built on the site of the former Nanuet Mall, the Shops at Nanuet debuted in 2013. As of 2022, the mall currently maintains traditional tenants At Home, Stop & Shop, as well as a Regal Cinemas.
Deerbrook Mall is a mall located in the northern Houston suburb of Humble. It is at the major intersection of I-69/US 59 and FM 1960, near George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Deerbrook Mall is classified as a super-regional mall and is the only mall in suburban Northeast Houston. The mall is in the middle of Humble's entertainment complex which includes restaurants, other shopping outlets, movie theaters, as well as communities, which creates heavy traffic and congestion during traffic rush hour and weekend rushes. Deerbrook is owned by Brookfield Properties of Chicago, Illinois. The anchor stores are Dick's Sporting Goods, AMC Theatres, JCPenney, Barnes & Noble, Dillard's, Forever 21, and Macy's. Westminster Mall was an enclosed shopping mall in Westminster, Colorado, a suburb of Denver, Colorado, United States. Opened in 1977, the mall featured one anchor store (Joslins). Former anchors were Dillard's, Montgomery Ward, Mervyn's, Sears, and Macy's. The mall also included a food court and formerly included a movie theater. It was also a dead mall, having closed in 2011.
Sandusky Mall is an indoor shopping center located in Perkins Township, south of Sandusky, Ohio. It is located on the east side of US Route 250, north of I-80/I-90 and Ohio State Route 2. It is the only major shopping center within 45 miles (72 km). It comprises more than 70 stores; the anchor stores are TJ Maxx, JCPenney, Books-A-Million, Dewey Furniture, Five Below, and Ross. JCPenney had previously operated a store in downtown Sandusky. It is managed by Cafaro Company of Niles, Ohio.
Three Rivers Mall is an enclosed shopping mall located in Kelso, Washington that opened in 1987, on the site of a former golf course adjacent to Interstate 5. Previously owned by General Growth Properties, the mall was one of 30 malls that was spun off into Rouse Properties in 2012. Rouse was acquired by Brookfield Properties Retail Group in 2016. In July 2019, Brookfield sold the mall to Arizona-based Three Rivers Village, LLC.
