Crescent is a populated place in Rowan County, North Carolina, United States.
The Crescent post office existed from March 5, 1898 to May 29, 1925. Rev. Dr. J.M.L. Lyerly was the first post master of Crescent. Rev. Lyerly was a native of Crescent and head of the Crescent Academy that he founded and conducted. He was known as a leader of the Reformed Church in North Carolina. [1] [2]
Crescent has been in the Gold Hill Township since 1868, when the North Carolina state constitution required counties to be divide into townships. [3]

Crescent has always been a small community. Since 1870, the census population of Gold Hill Township includes the population of Crescent. [3] [6]

Union Grove Township is a rural, non-functioning county subdivision established in 1868 in Iredell County, North Carolina, United States. Two towns have existed in Union Grove township: 1) the unincorporated community Union Grove, established in 1857 and 2) the former town of Williamsburg established in 1812. In 2019, within the unincorporated town of Union Grove is the Union Grove Milling Company, Union Grove School, Union Grove Volunteer Fire House, and two Methodist churches. In the later half of the 20th century, Union Grove was famous for the Fiddler's Convention which was held in Union Grove from the 1920s to 1970s. The Fiddler's Convention was originally established to benefit the Union Grove school.

It was first listed as a CDP in the 2020 census with a population of 372. It is situated near the Yadkin River and is served by U.S. Highway 52 and Old Beatty Ford Road. Gold was found in this small town outside Salisbury in the 19th century.

Lyerly Building for Boys, also known as Nazareth Orphans' Home, Nazareth Children's Home or Nazareth Child & Family Connection, is a historic orphanage located at Gold Hill Township, Rowan County, North Carolina. It was built between 1913 and 1916, and is a two-story, front gabled, vernacular Gothic Revival style granite building. It has a steeply pitched parapeted slate roof. The building housed a school and chapel in the first floor with boys dormitory above.
