Cryphalus ruficollis is a species of bark beetle in the family Curculionidae. [1] [2] [3] that lives in North America and many other parts of the world. [1] These beetles live in trees, favoring those with a bit of hollowness and light.

To preserve beetle species associated with old trees, it has become common in commercial forestry to keep such trees when felling others. However, to create beneficial conditions for species associated with retained trees, surrounding plantation must meet their specific needs.

Dendroctonus jeffreyi, known generally as the Jeffrey pine beetle or mountain pine beetle, is a species of crenulate bark beetle in the family Curculionidae. It is found in North America. The Jeffrey pine beetle is monophagous on the Jeffrey pine tree, a dominant yellow pine and most concentrated in areas ranging from Southwestern Oregon to Baja California to western Nevada. In its native range, it causes a significant amount of damage as large numbers of tree mortality have been documented.
