An old variant name of the community was Dogtown. [1] A post office was established under the name Cypress in 1882, and remained in operation until 1933. [2]
Vanderburgh County is a county in the U.S. state of Indiana. As of 2010, the population was 179,703. The county seat is in Evansville. While Vanderburgh County was the seventh-largest county in 2010 population with 179,703 people, it is also the eighth-smallest county in area in Indiana and the smallest in southwestern Indiana, covering only 236 square miles (610 km2). In 2019, the population was 181,451.
The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC) is a public school corporation serving Evansville, Indiana and Vanderburgh County; its boundary includes the entire county. It is the third largest school district in the state of Indiana, behind Indianapolis Public Schools and Fort Wayne Community Schools and the largest in Southern Indiana. The headquarters are located on Walnut Street in downtown Evansville. The school district serves nearly 23,000 students educated by more than 1,600 teachers.
