Enclosure, liner notes, and article
Included in the release is a single sheet of paper, printed on both sides and folded into thirds, yielding a six-page enclosure that slides out of the case. Its front page to also function as the CD's cover, and the back is a mostly blank, textured grey that matches the background of the front.
The first page inside lists the contents of and credits for the release, and the next page inside is filled with liner notes. The third page features a black-and-white photo of the band on stage along with a partial ticket stub for the show at the Labor Temple, and the fourth page features a newspaper article. [5]
Liner notes by Bear
The liner notes were written by Owsley "Bear" Stanley on 9/22/02. Consisting of only three paragraphs, he starts out by stating that in 1969 the band and crew frequently had to share hotel rooms, "but I think it was one of the nicer things limited money did, because we got to know each other pretty well that way."
The topic of the second paragraph is the Electric Theater in Chicago, which was "one of the odder ones we played in those days." After mentioning that "it was run by Aaron Russo," who later became Bette Midler's manager, he then reveals that "We generally did psychedelics on a Saturday, but I do not remember for sure if that was true this night, but chances are it was."
In the third and last paragraph Bear describes the Minneapolis show as being in the "familiar mode for almost the whole career of the band", in which the group started "off a bit rough around the edges, [would] slowly warm up, and by the second set was flying." [6]
Article from the Minneapolis Star Tribune
The newspaper clipping included in the enclosure is credited to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, but there is no indication of its date or author. Entitled "Grateful Dead sock it to 2,000 rock lovers," it features two large black-and-white photographs of some fans, including a very young child and a cat, that take up about twice as much space as the article's text.
The article mentions that the Dead was "a group billed as the leader of underground rock" and the young audience "clapped a lot and some of them danced." It closes by describing the music as "a mixture of jazz and rock and folk that—along with the lights and in some cases marijuana—has been turning on people around the country for several years." [7]
Fillmore West 1969: The Complete Recordings is a limited edition box set, released in November 2005, featuring four complete concerts by the Grateful Dead on 10 CDs. These concerts, performed on four consecutive nights from February 27 through March 2, 1969, were the basis for Live/Dead. Thus, unlike Dick's Picks, Road Trips, Dave's Picks, and certain other of the band's archival series of live album releases, which are simply two-track stereo recordings made from the soundboard during the concert, the shows in the box set were all recorded on a 16-track multitrack recorder and were mixed down to stereo just prior to the box set's 2005 release.
Grateful Dead Download Series Volume 12 is the twelfth in a series of live digital downloads of the band the Grateful Dead released by Grateful Dead Productions. It was released on April 4, 2006 and is a two disc release of a complete show the band performed on April 17, 1969 at the Washington University in St. Louis, MO. The second disc is also supplemented by two songs from a rehearsal at the Avalon Ballroom on January 23, 1969.
Dick's Picks Volume 22 is a two-CD album by the rock group the Grateful Dead, the 22nd installment of the live archival release series. It documents portions of the concerts on February 23 and 24, 1968, at the Kings Beach Bowl in Kings Beach, California. It was released in June 2001.
Live at the Fillmore East 2-11-69 is a double live album by the Grateful Dead recorded during the Live/Dead tour on February 11, 1969 at the Fillmore East in New York City. The first disc represents the early show that night, the second the late show. The Dead opened for Janis Joplin. This album contains the first Grateful Dead CD release of the Beatles' "Hey Jude".
Rockin' the Rhein with the Grateful Dead is a Grateful Dead triple live album released in 2004. It was recorded April 24, 1972, at "Rheinhallen", in the German town of Düsseldorf, during the band's European tour of 1972. The complete concert is included, but the order of the tracks on the CD was altered to fit the show on three discs, while preserving groups of segued tracks.
Dick's Picks Volume 4 is the fourth live album in the Dick's Picks series of releases by the Grateful Dead. It was recorded on February 13 and February 14, 1970, at the Fillmore East in New York City, and released in February 1996. It was the first of the Dick's Picks CDs to have three discs. It was also the first Dead album to include the song "Mason's Children".
Dick's Picks Volume 8 is the eighth live album in the Dick's Picks series of releases by the Grateful Dead. It was recorded on May 2, 1970 at Harpur College in Binghamton, New York. It was released in mid-1997.
Dick's Picks Volume 16 is the 16th live album in the Dick's Picks series of releases by the Grateful Dead. It was recorded on November 8, 1969 at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco, California. It contains the first live performance of "Cumberland Blues". There is a monologue by someone not in the band during the song "Caution" shortly before the segue to "The Main Ten," who has never been definitively identified.
Fillmore West 1969 is a three-CD album composed of selections from four concerts by the Grateful Dead. These concerts, performed on four consecutive nights from February 27 through March 2, 1969, were the basis for Live/Dead. In addition to the three-disc set, the entire run of four nights was released as The Complete Fillmore West 1969, a 10 compact disc set that was limited to 10,000 copies.
Dick's Picks Volume 28 is an album by the rock band the Grateful Dead. Released on four CDs on April 20, 2003, it is the 28th installment of the Dick's Picks archival series. It was principally recorded February 26, 1973 at the Pershing Municipal Auditorium in Lincoln, Nebraska, and February 28, 1973 at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Dick's Picks Volume 30 is the 30th installment of the Grateful Dead's archival series. Just prior to their Europe '72 tour, the Grateful Dead played seven shows at the Academy of Music on 14th Street in New York City. Included in this four CD set is the entire March 28, 1972 performance plus selections from March 25, 1972 and March 27, 1972. The March 25 show featured Bo Diddley as a guest, whose performance, backed by the Grateful Dead, is included in Disc One. Other rarities contained in this volume are the only Grateful Dead live performances of "How Sweet it Is ", "Are You Lonely for Me" and "The Sidewalks of New York".
Road Trips Volume 1 Number 3 is a two-CD live album by the American rock band the Grateful Dead. The third in their "Road Trips" series of albums, it was released on June 9, 2008. The first disc was recorded on July 31, 1971, at the Yale Bowl in New Haven, Connecticut, and the second disc was recorded on August 23, 1971, at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago, Illinois.
Road Trips Volume 3 Number 3 is a live album by the American rock band the Grateful Dead. Recorded on May 15, 1970, and released on June 14, 2010, it was the 11th of the "Road Trips" series of albums, and the first to contain three discs instead of two.

Dave's Picks Volume 6 is a three-CD live album by the rock band the Grateful Dead. It contains two complete concerts: one from December 20, 1969, at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco and the second from February 2, 1970, at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis. It was produced as a limited edition of 13,000 numbered copies, and was released on May 1, 2013.
Dave's Picks Volume 10 is a three-CD live album by the rock band the Grateful Dead. It contains the complete concert recorded on December 12, 1969, at the Thelma music venue in Los Angeles, California. It was produced as a limited edition of 14,000 numbered copies, and was released on May 1, 2014.
Dave's Picks Volume 14 is a three-CD live album by the rock band the Grateful Dead containing the concert recorded March 26, 1972 at the Academy of Music in New York City It was released on May 1, 2015 as a limited edition of 16,500 numbered copies. Recorded during a seven-day run at the venue, the shows were the final American Grateful Dead shows before the Europe '72 tour commenced.
30 Trips Around the Sun is an 80-CD live album, packaged as a box set, by the rock band the Grateful Dead. Announced for the celebration of their 50th anniversary, it consists of 30 complete, previously unreleased concerts, with one show per year from 1966 through 1995. Comprising 73 hours of music, the box set is individually numbered and limited to 6,500 copies. It was released on October 7, 2015.
Dave's Picks Volume 19 is a three-CD live album by the rock band the Grateful Dead. It contains the complete concert recorded on January 23, 1970, at the Honolulu Civic Auditorium in Honolulu, Hawaii. It also includes bonus tracks recorded the following night at the same venue, keyboardist Tom Constanten's last show with the band. It was produced as a limited edition of 16,500 copies, and was released on August 1, 2016.
Dave's Picks Volume 30 is a 3-CD live album by the rock band the Grateful Dead. It contains the complete early and late shows recorded on January 2, 1970 at the Fillmore East in New York City, along with five songs from the band's performances at the same venue the following night. It was released on May 3, 2019 in a limited edition of 20,000 copies.
