The first election to Dinefwr Borough Council following the re-organization of local government in Wales was held in May 1973. [1] It was followed by the 1976 election. On the same day there was a UK General Election and elections to the other local authorities and community councils in Wales.

Dinefwr was a local government district of Dyfed, Wales from 1974 to 1996. It was named after Dinefwr Castle which was the court of the House of Dinefwr and one of the three principal royal courts of Wales with Aberffraw and Shrewsbury.
