Ceredigion County Council election, 2004

An election to Ceredigion County Council was held on 10 June 2004 on the same day of the European Elections. [1] It was preceded by the 1999 election and followed by the 2008 election.

Ceredigion County Council

Ceredigion County Council is the governing body for the county of Ceredigion, since 1996 one of the unitary authorities of Wales.

The whole council was up for election and following boundary changes the number of seats was reduced to 42. [2] The council remained in a situation of No Overall Control following Plaid Cymru gains at the expense of the Independents. The Independents formed a coalition administration following the previous county council election in May 1999, being largest group on the council along with the Liberal Democrats.

Liberal Democrats (UK) Political party in the United Kingdom

The Liberal Democrats are a liberal political party in the United Kingdom. They presently have 11 Members of Parliament in the House of Commons, 96 members of the House of Lords, and one member of the European Parliament. They also have five Members of the Scottish Parliament and a member each in the Welsh Assembly and London Assembly. The party reached the height of its influence in the early 2010s, forming a junior partner in a coalition government from 2010 to 2015. It is presently led by Vince Cable.

The Labour Party is a centre-left political party in the United Kingdom which has been described as an alliance of social democrats, democratic socialists and trade unionists. The party's platform emphasises greater state intervention, social justice and strengthening workers' rights.

Sixteen members of the original Council elected in 1995 were again returned.

Three of the elected Independent councilors, namely Gethin James (Aberporth), Ray Quant (Borth) and Haydn Lewis (Penparc) were non-party Independents, in that they did not sit as members of the Independent group of councilors.

All 42 council seats are up for election. It was preceded by the 2004 election and followed by the 2012 election.

Aberystwyth Town Council is the community council that governs the ancient borough, town and community of Aberystwyth. For electoral purposes, it is divided into five electoral divisions.

2007 National Assembly for Wales election election

The 2007 National Assembly election was held on Thursday 3 May 2007 to elect members to the National Assembly for Wales. It was the third general election. The Cardiff Council election in 2008 was held on 1 May, along with other local elections in the UK. All 75 seats of Cardiff Council were contested, with it remaining in no overall control. It was preceded by the 2004 election and followed by the 2012 election

2012 Ceredigion County Council election

An election to Ceredigion County Council was held on 3 May 2012 along with elections to 20 of the other 21 local authorities in Wales, community council elections in Wales and other elections elsewhere in the United Kingdom. It was followed by the 2017 election.

The second elections to the Carmarthenshire County Council were held in May 1999. It was preceded by the 1995 election and followed by the 2004 election. They resulted in a coalition between Independent councillors and Plaid Cymru for the next five years.

The third election to the Carmarthenshire County Council were held in May 2004. It was preceded by the 1999 election and followed by the 2008 election. As in previous elections, the Independent councillors had the largest number of seats. They resulted in a coalition between Independent and Labour Councillors for the next four years.

The fifth election to the Carmarthenshire County Council was held on 1 May 2012. It was preceded by the 2008 election and was followed by the 2017 election. Plaid Cymru won 28 seats whilst Labour and the Independents won 23 each. The main feature of the election was a Labour recovery in the Llanelli area, and to some extent in the Gwendraeth and Ammanford area also, mainly at the expense of Independent candidates. Plaid Cymru lost ground to Labour in the Llanelli area but gained seats elsewhere, becoming the largest party. An Independent-Labour coalition was again formed, but with Labour as the leading partner. As a result, Kevin Madge replaced Meryl Gravell as the leader of the council.

The second election to the Ceredigion County Council was held on 6 May 1999. It was preceded by the 1995 election and followed by the 2004 election.

An election to the Carmarthenshire County Council was held on 13 April 1967. It was preceded by the 1964 election and followed by the 1970 election.

2017 Welsh local elections

Local elections were held in Wales on Thursday 4 May 2017 to elect members of all 22 local authorities, including the Isle of Anglesey, which was last up for election in 2013 due to having its elections delayed for a year. These local elections were held alongside local elections in Scotland and parts of England.

An election to Ceredigion County Council were held on 4 May 2017 as part of wider local elections across Wales. It was preceded by the 2012 election and the next election is scheduled to take place in 2022.

The third election to Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council was held in June 2004. It was preceded by the 1999 election and followed by the 2008 election. On the same day there were elections to the other 21 local authorities in Wales and community councils in Wales and the first elections to the National Assembly for Wales were held.

Aberystwyth Rheidol

Aberystwyth Rheidol is the name of a local government electoral ward in the town of Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, Wales. It elects a county councillor to Ceredigion County Council and also elects town councillors to Aberystwyth Town Council.
