An election to Llanelli Borough Council was held in May 1991. [1] It was preceded by the 1987 election and followed, as a result of local government reorganisation in Wales and the formation of unitary authorities, by the Carmarthenshire County Council election of 1995. On the same day there were elections to the other local authorities and community councils in Wales.
Wales is a country that is part of the United Kingdom and the island of Great Britain. It had a population in 2011 of 3,063,456 and has a total area of 20,779 km2 (8,023 sq mi). The country lies within the north temperate zone and has a changeable, maritime climate.
The Labour Party faced further losses as various other parties won seats throughout the borough.
The Labour Party is a centre-left political party in the United Kingdom which has been described as an alliance of social democrats, democratic socialists and trade unionists. The party's platform emphasises greater state intervention, social justice and strengthening workers' rights.

Llanelli is a constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. From 1918 to 1970 the official spelling of the constituency name was Llanelly. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election.
Local elections took place in many parts of England on 7 May 1998. All London borough council seats were elected as well a third of the seats on each of the Metropolitan Boroughs. Some unitary authorities and District councils also had elections. There were no local elections in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.
Dinefwr was a local government district of Dyfed, Wales from 1974 to 1996. It was named after Dinefwr Castle which was the court of the House of Dinefwr and one of the three principal royal courts of Wales with Aberffraw and Shrewsbury.

The Borough of Llanelli was one of thirty-seven local government districts in Wales from 1974 to 1996. It was the smallest of six districts in the newly created county of Dyfed, and was formed under the Local Government Act 1972 by a merger of the municipal boroughs of Llanelli and Kidwelly, Burry Port urban district and Llanelli Rural District all in the former administrative county of Carmarthenshire. The district was governed by Llanelli Borough Council which was based in the town of Llanelli.
Sefton Council is the governing body for the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton in Merseyside, north-western England. The council was under no overall control from the 1980s until 2012 when the Labour Party took control. It is a constituent council of Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.
