Dominica has competed at every edition of the Pan American Games since the thirteenth edition of the multi-sport event in 1995, having won two silver and one bronze medals. Dominica did not compete at the first and only Pan American Winter Games in 1990.

Dominica country in the Caribbean

Dominica, officially the Commonwealth of Dominica, is an island country in the West Indies. The capital, Roseau, is located on the western side of the island. It is part of the Windward Islands in the Lesser Antilles archipelago in the Caribbean Sea. The island is located near Guadeloupe to the northwest and Martinique to the south-southeast. Its area is 750 km2 (290 sq mi), and the highest point is Morne Diablotins, at 1,447 m (4,747 ft) in elevation. The population was 71,293 at the 2011 census.

Pan American Games Multi-sport event of the Americas

The Pan American Games is a major sporting event in the Americas featuring summer sports, in which thousands of athletes participate in a variety of competitions. The competition is held among athletes from nations of the Americas, every four years in the year before the Summer Olympic Games. The only Winter Pan American Games were held in 1990. In 2021, there will be a Junior Pan American Games for young athletes. The Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) is the governing body of the Pan American Games movement, whose structure and actions are defined by the Olympic Charter.

Dominica at the 2004 Summer Olympics

Dominica competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, from 13 to 29 August 2004. The country's participation at Athens marked its third appearance in the Summer Olympics since its debut in the 1996 Summer Olympics. Two track and field athletes, Chris Lloyd and Marie-Lyne Joseph were selected to represent the nation, the latter by a wildcard place as the nation had no other athletes that met either the "A" or "B" qualifying standards apart from Lloyd. Lloyd was selected as flag bearer for the opening ceremony.

Chris Lloyd is a sprinter from Dominica who specializes in the 400 metres. His personal best time is 45.40 seconds, achieved in April 2007 in Lawrence. The Dominican record currently belongs to Bruce Phillip with 45.31 seconds. Lloyd does hold the Dominican 200 metres record, however, with 20.62 seconds and 100m, achieved in April 2006 in Baton Rouge.

Dominica at the Olympics

Dominica first competed at the Olympic Games in 1996, and has participated in each Games since then. Dominica has yet to win any medals at the Olympic Games.

Athletics at the 2007 Pan American Games

The athletics competition at the 2007 Pan American Games was held at the Flamengo Park and Estádio Olímpico João Havelange in Rio de Janeiro between 22 July and 29 July 2007. In the 47 events that took place, thirteen Games records in athletics were equalled or beaten at the 2007 edition.

Dominica at the 2008 Summer Olympics

Dominica sent a delegation of eight people, including two athletes, to compete at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. Its appearance in Beijing marked the fourth time a delegation from Dominica participated in an Olympic games since its debut at the 1996 Olympic games, one of its smallest delegations in its history and the first Dominican delegation that did not include female athletes. Chris Lloyd ran for Dominica in the men's 200 meters and Erison Hurtault participated in the men's 400 meters. Neither advanced past the qualification rounds. Lloyd was also supposed to compete in the men's 400 meters, but did not participate in it. Track coach Jérôme Romain was the country's flag bearer at the Olympics.

Since its first edition held in 1951, athletics events have been competed at the Pan American Games. The events list follows the Olympic model as the Games are an IOC sanctioned competition.

The 2019 Pan American Games, officially the XVIII Pan American Games and commonly known as the Lima 2019 Pan-Am Games, were a multi-sport event governed by the Panam Sports Organization, was held in Lima, Peru from July 26 to August 11, 2019, with preliminary rounds in certain events having begun on July 24, 2019.

Saint Lucia at the Pan American Games

Saint Lucia has competed at every edition of the Pan American Games since the twelfth edition of the multi-sport event in 1995. Track and field athlete Dominic Johnson won the country's first Pan Am medal in 2003, a bronze in the men's pole vault. To date, all three of Saint Lucia's medals have been won in the sport of track and field. As of the last Pan American Games in 2015, Saint Lucia is twenty-ninth on the all time medals list. Dominica will compete at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico from October 14 to 30, 2011. Dominica will compete with five athletes in two sports, athletics and boxing.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines at the Pan American Games

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has competed at every edition of the Pan American Games since the eleventh edition of the multi-sport event in 1991. To date, all of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines's medals have been won in the sport of track and field. In 1995, Eswort Coombs won Saint Vincent and the Grenadines first medal, a bronze in the 400 metres track and field event. Kineke Alexander won the country's second medal, a bronze medal in the women's 400 metres in 2015. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines did not compete at the first and only Pan American Winter Games in 1990.

Dominica competed at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Ontario, Canada from July 10 to 26, 2015.

Athletics competitions at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto were held from July 19 to 26 at the newly built CIBC Pan Am and Parapan Am Athletics Stadium, located on the campus of York University. The racewalking and marathon events were held on the temporary circuits around the Ontario Place West Channel. The sport of athletics is split into distinct sets of events: track and field events, road running events, and racewalking events.

Dominica at the 2016 Summer Olympics

Dominica participated in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro from 5 to 21 August 2016. The country's participation in Rio marked its sixth appearance in the Summer Olympics since its debut in the 1996 Summer Olympics. The delegation included two athletes: Yordanys Durañona and Thea LaFond, both competing in the men's and women's triple jump, respectively. The former qualified for the Games by meeting qualification standards while the latter entered the quadrennial event through a wildcard place. Neither athlete progressed farther than the first round of their events.

Yordanys Durañona García is a Cuban-born triple jumper, who competed internationally for Dominica. Switching allegiance from his native Cuba in 2011, he represented Dominica in a multitude of international tournaments, including the 2014 Commonwealth Games, 2015 Pan American Games, and 2016 Summer Olympics. Durañona also achieved his outdoor best jump of 17.20 m (-1.0 m/s) at the 2014 Pan American Sports Festival in Mexico City.

2018 NACAC Championships

The 2018 North American, Central American and Caribbean Championships was a regional track and field competition held at Varsity Stadium in Toronto, Canada, from August 10-12, 2018. It was the third edition of a senior track and field championship for the NACAC region, held three years after the 2015 NACAC Championships. The winner of each event qualified for the 2019 Pan American Games competition, which will be held in Lima, Peru.
