The 1999 Pan American Games, officially the XIII Pan American Games or the 13th Pan American Games and commonly known as Winnipeg 1999, were a major international multi-sport event that was held from July 23 to August 8, 1999, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and surrounding towns and cities. Canoeing competitions started the day before the games officially began. Approximately 5,000 athletes from 42 nations participated in the games to vie for a total of 330 medal events in 34 sports and 42 disciplines.
The South American Games, formerly the Southern Cross Games is a regional multi-sport event held between nations from South America, organized by the ODESUR (acronym for "Organización Deportiva Suramericana" – South American Sports Organization.
The 2007 Pan American Games, officially known as the XV Pan American Games, were a continental multi-sport event held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from July 13 to July 29, 2007. At the Games, 5,633 athletes selected from 42 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) participated in 332 events in 34 sports divided into 47 disciplines. According to the Rio de Janeiro Organizing Committee for the Pan American Games, 2,196 medals were awarded for every winning athlete, including individuals from teams, during 334 awards ceremonies.
The athletics competition at the 2007 Pan American Games was held at the Flamengo Park and Estádio Olímpico João Havelange in Rio de Janeiro between 22 July and 29 July 2007. In the 47 events that took place, thirteen Games records in athletics were equalled or beaten at the 2007 edition.
Canada has competed at every edition of the Pan American Games since the second edition of the multi-sport event in 1955. As of the last Pan American Games in 2019, Canada is third on the all time medals list, only behind the United States and Cuba. Canada is also one of nine countries to have competed at the only Winter Pan American Games, and only of one two to win a medal at the games.
Argentina has competed at every edition of the Pan American Games since the first edition of the multi-sport event in 1951, in which it hosted. Argentina competed in the first ever Pan American Winter Games in 1990; however, it failed to get medals.
Bolivia has competed at every edition of the Pan American Games since the fifth edition of the multi-sport event in 1967. The first Bolivian medal was a silver in the 1991 taekwondo tournament. Since then the country has won one gold medal, three silver medals, and eight bronze medals between 2003 and 2019. Aside from two silver medals in taekwondo and tennis, and a bronze in cycling, all the other medals came from racquetball. As of the last Pan American Games in 2023, Bolivia is twenty-third on the all time medals list. Bolivia competed in the first ever Pan American Winter Games in 1990, however it failed to medal.
Athletics competitions at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara was held from October 23 to October 30 at the newly built Telmex Athletics Stadium. The racewalking and marathon events were held on the temporary Guadalajara Circuit and Route and the Pan American Marathon circuit respectively. The sport of athletics is split into distinct sets of events: track and field events, road running events, and racewalking events.

Julio César De La Cruz Peraza is a Cuban professional boxer. As an amateur he won gold medals at the 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics, and the 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2021 AIBA World Boxing Championships. As a professional, he has qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics.

By becoming the first table tennis player from the Americas to reach an Olympic semi-final, he returned to the world No. 3 position in August 2024.

Bruna Yumi Takahashi is a Brazilian table tennis player. She represented Brazil at the Summer Olympics two times since 2016. She is one of the best Americas players in the ITTF world ranking, after Puerto Rico's Adriana Diaz. Her sister Giulia Takahashi also plays table tennis.

Keydomar Giovanni Vallenilla Sánchez is a Venezuelan weightlifter. In 2021, he won the silver medal in the men's 96 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. He won the gold medal in the men's 89 kg event at the 2022 World Weightlifting Championships held in Bogotá, Colombia.
