The Sheffield Shield is the domestic first-class cricket competition of Australia. The tournament is contested between teams from the six states of Australia. The Sheffield Shield is named after Lord Sheffield.
Harold Edward Gilbert,known as Eddie Gilbert,was an Australian Aboriginal cricketer who represented Queensland in the Sheffield Shield. He was described as an exceptionally fast bowler. He competed for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield between 1930 and 1936. Described by Don Bradman as the fastest bowler he ever faced,Bradman said he was “faster than anything seen from Harold Larwood or anyone else.”
Herbert Ironmonger was an Australian cricketer. He played Test cricket from 1928 to 1933,playing his last Test at the age of 50. He is the second-oldest Test cricketer.

Shaun Francis Graf is a former Australian first-class cricketer who played 11 One Day Internationals (ODIs) for Australia in the early 1980s as an all-rounder. He represented Western Australia as well as his native Victoria in the Sheffield Shield and also played county cricket for Hampshire. He was part of Sheffield Shield-winning sides in 1979–80 (Victoria) and 1983–84.
Douglas Thomas Ring was an Australian cricketer who played for Victoria and for Australia in 13 Test matches between 1948 and 1953. In 129 first-class cricket matches,he took 426 wickets bowling leg spin,and he had a top score of 145 runs,which was the only century of his career.
Wade Anthony Seccombe is an Australian cricket coach and former first-class cricketer representing the state of Queensland. A wicket-keeper,Seccombe spent much of his career as second choice behind incumbent Ian Healy,replacing him largely when the latter was on international duty. He was nevertheless regarded as a keeper of substantial skill,rated a "great keeper" by Australian captain Ricky Ponting.
Raymond Harvey was an Australian former first-class cricketer who played for Victoria in the 1940s and 1950s. He was the brother of Australian Test batsmen Merv and Neil and first-class cricketer and umpire Mick Harvey. Ray Harvey was an attacking and talented batsman but failed to reach international standards and only managed to hold down a regular position in the Victorian team in two seasons in the 1950s. This failure to match the standards set by his Test-capped brothers was often attributed to a lack of single-mindedness and hunger.
Edward Philip Illingworth is a former Australian cricketer who played five first-class matches for Victoria between 1962 and 1964. A right-arm medium pace bowler,Illingworth was best remembered for being no-balled for throwing in a Sheffield Shield match against South Australia in November 1964 by umpires Col Egar and Jack Ryan. His selection for Victoria was made more controversial by the fact that he had been called at district level for throwing prior to his first-class debut. Away from first-class cricket,Illingworth had a successful career for Fitzroy in Victorian Premier Cricket,where he remains the eighth highest wicket-taker of all time,with 599. He was named the club champion three times,and later served for seven years as a board member of the Victorian Cricket Association.
The 2008–09 Sheffield Shield season was the 107th season of official first-class domestic cricket in Australia. After nine seasons of being named the Pura Cup,it was announced that the Australian interstate trophy would return to its previous name of the Sheffield Shield as part of a new sponsorship agreement with Weet-Bix. The season began on 10 October 2008 when Queensland took on Tasmania at the Gabba. The two points table leaders at the end of the regular season,Victoria and Queensland,played each other in the final at the Junction Oval,with Victoria becoming Sheffield Shield champions after a drawn match thanks to their superior results in the regular season.

The 2014–15 Sheffield Shield season was the 113th season of the Sheffield Shield,the domestic first-class cricket competition of Australia. It was held after the conclusion of the Matador BBQs One-Day Cup and included a break halfway through for the entirety of the Big Bash League. Trials for day/night Tests with the pink ball continued from the previous season. This season introduced a new bonus point system based on the runs scored and wickets taken in the first 100 overs of both teams' first innings. Due to Australia and New Zealand hosting the 2015 Cricket World Cup,several matches in the later rounds could not be held at the usual home grounds of the teams. The final was contested between Victoria and Western Australia. Due to the final of the World Cup being held at the MCG,Victoria,who earned the right to host the final by finishing on top of the ladder,had to choose an alternative ground. They opted for Bellerive Oval in Hobart. The final was drawn,meaning Victoria won their 29th title by finishing on top of the table. Adam Voges was the leading run-scorer and was named man of the series,while Fawad Ahmed took the most wickets of the season. Round 4 was marred by the death of Phillip Hughes on 27 November 2014 after he got hit in the neck by a bouncer two days earlier.
Scott Michael Boland is an Australian international cricketer. A right-arm fast-medium bowler,he also plays domestically for Victoria and the Melbourne Stars. In March 2019,he was named the Sheffield Shield Player of the Year by Cricket Australia. Boland is one of a handful of Indigenous Australians to be selected to play for Australia at international level and,as of December 2021,is only the second male Aboriginal player to have played Test cricket for Australia,after Jason Gillespie. Boland was a member of the Australian team that won the 2023 ICC World Test Championship final.
Daniel James Worrall is an Australian–English cricketer. He played for South Australia in the Sheffield Shield competition and for the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League. He was selected to play for Australia in 2016. He holds British citizenship and now lives in England. He will be classed as an international player in Australian competitions.
The 2017–18 Sheffield Shield season was the 116th season of the Sheffield Shield,the domestic first-class cricket competition in Australia. It started on 26 October 2017 and finished on 27 March 2018. The opening round of matches were played as day/night fixtures and the first three rounds of matches took place before the Ashes series. Victoria were the defending champions.
Kevin Joseph McCarthy is a former cricketer who played first-class cricket for South Australia from 1964-65 to 1972-73.
The 2020–21 Sheffield Shield season was the 119th season of the Sheffield Shield,the domestic first-class cricket competition in Australia. On 26 June 2020,Cricket Australia confirmed all the squads for the 2020–21 domestic cricket season. Cricket Australia also confirmed that the tournament would use the Kookaburra ball for all the matches,after using the Duke ball since the 2016–17 season. New South Wales were the defending champions.
