The Double Diamond Individual Championship was a European Tour golf tournament which was played from 1974 to 1977. The event was a 36-hole strokeplay tournament which preceded the Double Diamond International team event, which was played later the same week. The tournament was officially titled as the Double Diamond Strokeplay in 1974 and 1975, and the Skol Lager Individual in its final year. [1]
The 1977 Skol Lager Individual was played over the King's Course at Gleneagles in Scotland on 16 and 17 August. After the 36 holes, Nick Faldo, Craig Defoy and Chris Witcher were tied at 139. Faldo won a playoff at the first extra hole to claim his first European Tour title at the age of twenty. [2]

Sir Nicholas Alexander Faldo, is an English retired professional golfer and television commentator. A top player of his era, renowned for his dedication to the game, he was ranked No. 1 on the Official World Golf Ranking for a total of 97 weeks. His 41 professional wins include 30 victories on the European Tour and six major championships: three Open Championships and three Masters.
Thomas Alfred Horton, was an English professional golfer. He finished in the top ten of the Open Championship four times, won a number of important tournaments both before and after the founding of the European Tour in 1972 and played in the Ryder Cup in 1975 and 1977. He reached 50 just before the founding of the European Seniors Tour and won 23 times on the tour between 1992 and 2000.
Mark Hugh James is an English professional golfer who had a long career on the European Tour and captained Europe in the 1999 Ryder Cup. He has also played senior golf on the European Senior Tour and the U.S.-based Champions Tour.
Brian William Barnes was a professional golfer. He won nine times on the European Tour between 1972 and 1981 and twice won the Senior British Open.
Kenneth John Brown is a former Scottish golfer, who now works as a golf broadcaster and writer. He won the 1987 Southern Open on the PGA Tour and won four times on the European Tour. He played in five Ryder Cup matches between 1977 and 1987.
Peter Arthur Oosterhuis is an English professional golfer and golf broadcaster. Oosterhuis played on the European circuit from 1969 to 1974, winning 10 tournaments and taking the Harry Vardon Trophy for heading the Order of Merit for four consecutive seasons from 1971 to 1974. From 1975 he played on the PGA Tour, winning the Canadian Open in 1981. He was twice runner-up in the Open Championship, in 1974 and 1982. Later he became a golf analyst on TV, initially in Europe and then in the United States. In 2015, Oosterhuis announced that he had Alzheimer's disease.
Eamonn Christopher Darcy is an Irish professional golfer. He won four times on the European Tour and played in the Ryder Cup four times.
Maurice Bembridge is an English golfer. He won the 1969 News of the World Match Play, the 1971 Dunlop Masters and won six times on the European Tour from its formation in 1972. He also won tournaments around the world, including the Kenya Open three times. He played in the Ryder Cup four successive times from 1969 to 1975 and represented England twice in the World Cup. At the 1974 Masters Tournament, Bembridge tied the course record with a 64 in the final round, lifting him into a tie for 9th place.
The Martini International was a men's professional golf tournament that was held from 1961 to 1983. It was hosted by several different golf clubs in England, Scotland and Wales. Although he turned professional in 1957, he played little top-level golf for the next 20 years, but then has considerable success, winning twice on the European Tour, five times on the Safari Circuit and playing in the 1983 Ryder Cup. After reaching 50 he had further success as a senior, winning the PGA Seniors Championship twice, and winning four times on the European Senior Tour.
