In February 2025, Mohan G announced his next project titled Draupathi 2, a sequel to his 2020 film Draupathi,[4] reuniting with Richard Rishi for the sequel, where Richard is seen playing the role of the King Veera Simha Kadavarayan.[5] The film is jointly produced by Sola Shakkaravarthi under his Netaji Productions in association with GM Film Corporation.[6] Rakshana Induchoodan was cast in the film to play the titular role as Draupathi Devi.[7] Apart from the lead cast, the film also features Chirag Jani, Natty Subramaniam, Y. G. Mahendran, Bharani, Saravana Subbiah, Vela Ramamoorthy, Dinesh Lamba and others in key roles.[8] The film has dialogues written by Mohan along with writer Padma Chandrasekhar and the technical team consists of music composer Ghibran Vaibodha, cinematographer Philip R. Sundar, editor Devaraj, art director Kamalnathan, dance choreographer Thanika Tony, and action choreographer Action Santosh.[9] In an interview, Mohan stated that the film's story is inspired from a book called Moondram Vallalla Maharaja by Annal Kandar.[10]
Principal photography was wrapped up in September 2025 after completing several schedules in five months that began in Mumbai and concluded in Ariyalur.[11]
The film has music composed by Ghibran Vaibodha.[12] The first single titled "Em Koney" released on 1 December 2025.[13] According to News 18, the makers decided to remove "Em Koney" song from the film after ChinmayiSripada apologized to the audience for unknowingly working with Mohan G because of their conflicting ideologies.[14] The second single titled "Tarasuki Ram" released on 7 January 2026.[15]
Draupathi 2 is scheduled to release in theatres on 23 January 2026.[16] Earlier it was scheduled for release in December 2025[17] and then was postponed to 23 January 2026.[18] Due to Jana Nayagan getting postponed due to censorship delays,[19] it was preponed and scheduled for 15 January 2026 coinciding during Pongal.[20][21]
