Bharathiraja is an Indian film director and actor who works mainly in the Tamil film industry. Making his debut in 1977 with 16 Vayathinile, he is known for realistic and sensitive portrayals of rural life in his films and popularly referred to as Iyakkunar Imayam. As of 2017, he has won six National Film Awards, four Filmfare Awards South, six Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and a Nandi Award. He has also directed films in Telugu and Hindi. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri award, India's fourth-highest civilian honour, in 2004 for his contribution to the film industry. In 2005, he was conferred with the Doctor of Letters from Sathyabama University.
Venkatesh Prabhu Kasthuri Raja, known professionally as Dhanush, is an Indian actor, filmmaker, lyricist and playback singer who primarily works in Tamil cinema. Having starred in 50 films over his career, his accolades include four National Film Awards, fourteen SIIMA Awards, eight Filmfare Awards South and a Filmfare Award. Enai Noki Paayum Thota is a 2019 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, who co-produced the film with P. Madhan and Venkat Somasundaram. The film stars Dhanush, Megha Akash, M. Sasikumar, and Sunaina. The music was composed by Darbuka Siva with cinematography was handled by Jomon T. Madura Veeran is a 2018 Indian Tamil-language action drama film written and directed by cinematographer P. G. Muthiah. Viji Subramaniam produced the film along with the director, under the banners of V Studios and PG Media Works. Shanmuga Pandian and Meenakshi play the lead roles, while Samuthirakani, Vela Ramamoorthy and Mime Gopi amongst others play supporting roles in the film. Santhosh Dhayanidhi was selected to compose the music for the film. The film's plot narrates the issues on jallikattu and the politics associated with, favouring the tradition rather than the proposed ban. Mayuran is a 2019 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by Nandan Subbrayan. It stars Anjan Dev, Asmitha Dogra and Vela Ramamoorthy in the lead roles, alongside a cast featuring predominantly newcomers. The film's soundtrack was composed by Jerard Felix, and its score was composed by Jubin. The film began production in late 2018 and was released on 30 August 2019.
Sarpatta Parambarai is a 2021 Indian Tamil-language sports action film directed by Pa. Ranjith, who also co-produced the film under his banner Neelam Productions, along with Shanmugam Dhakshanaraj of K9 Studios. The film stars Arya, John Kokken, Shabeer Kallarakkal, Dushara Vijayan, Pasupathy, Anupama Kumar and Sanchana Natarajan. Set in the 1970s, the film revolves around a clash between two clans namely Idiyappa Parambarai and Sarpatta Parambarai in North Chennai, which also showcases the boxing culture in the locality and the politics involved in it.
Kalathil Santhippom is a 2021 Indian Tamil language sports action drama film written and directed by N. Rajasekar with dialogues penned by R. Ashok. The film stars Jiiva, Arulnithi, Manjima Mohan and Priya Bhavani Shankar. The film is based on the sport of kabaddi and the friendship between two men Ashok and Anand who were initially regarded as rivals. The film also marked the posthumous release of actor Naadodigal Gopal who died on 5 March 2020 prior to the film release. It had its theatrical release on 5 February 2021 and opened to positive reviews from critics and became an average hit at the box office.
Vaathi (transl. Teacher) is a 2023 Indian bilingual period action drama film written and directed by Venky Atluri. The film was simultaneously shot in Tamil and Telugu with the latter version titled Sir. The film stars Dhanush, who plays a school teacher.
Ethirneechal is a popular Indian Tamil-language drama television series, which is being airing on Sun TV. The first season of this series starred Madhumitha Hirannaiah, Kaniha, Priyadarshini Neelakandan and Haripriya Isai in lead roles. This show is being produced by Sun Entertainment and Thiruselvam Theatres. Dialogues were written by Sri Vidhya and written and directed by V. Thiruselvam. The series is one of the most-popular and most-watched TV shows in Tamil Nadu from since it's launched. The first season premiered on 7 February 2022, and ended on 8 June 2024 with 744 episodes.
Marutha is a 2022 Indian Tamil-language drama film written and directed by GRS, who also stars in the lead role. Radhika Sarathkumar, Viji Chandrasekhar and Saravanan appear in the lead roles. Produced by GRS, it was released on 21 January 2022.
Dushara Vijayan is an Indian actress who is known for her works in Tamil cinema. She made her debut in the Tamil film Bodhai Yeri Budhi Maari (2019), and gained recognition for her performances in Sarpatta Parambarai (2021), Natchathiram Nagargiradhu (2022), Raayan (2024) and Vettaiyan (2024).
