Ke'Aundre J'Quan "Dre" Greenlaw [1] (born May 25, 1997) is an American professional football linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Arkansas Razorbacks and was selected by the 49ers in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL draft.
Greenlaw grew up in group homes and shelters in Arkansas from the age of 8. At 14 he met Brian Early, defensive coach for Fayetteville High School. [2] The Early family invited Greenlaw to live with them and formally adopted him at age 21.
Greenlaw attended Fayetteville Public Schools, playing for a Fayetteville High School football team that won the Class 7A 2011 state championship. He was named to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette preseason "Super Sophomore" team in 2012. [3] Greenlaw started at cornerback, recording 53 total tackles, two forced fumbles, five pass breakups, and an interception on a team that repeated as 7A state champions. [4] As a junior, he moved to strong safety. [5] He was considered a three-star recruit by Rivals.com. [6] [7]
Greenlaw played college football under head coaches Bret Bielema and Chad Morris at Arkansas. [8] He recorded 321 total tackles, four sacks, three interceptions, and four forced fumbles from 2015 to 2018. [9]

Greenlaw was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the fifth round (148th overall) of the 2019 NFL draft. [12] He was drafted after the 49ers traded linebacker Dekoda Watson to acquire the 148th pick. [13]
Greenlaw made his NFL debut in the season-opening 31–17 road victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, recording four tackles. [14] During a Week 9 28–25 road victory over the Arizona Cardinals, he recorded four tackles and his first NFL sack on Kyler Murray. [15] In the next game against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football , Greenlaw recorded eight tackles, a pass deflection, and his first NFL interception off of Russell Wilson in a 27–24 overtime loss. [16] The following week against the Cardinals, Greenlaw recorded 10 tackles as the 49ers won by a score of 36–26. [17]
During a narrow Week 14 48–46 road victory over the New Orleans Saints, Greenlaw recorded seven tackles and a pass deflection. [18] Two weeks later Los Angeles Rams, he recorded a team-high 13 tackles as the 49ers narrowly won by a score of 34–31. [19] In the regular-season finale against the Seahawks on Sunday Night Football, Greenlaw once again recorded a team-high 13 tackles and made a critical stop on tight end Jacob Hollister inside of the one-yard line on the final play of the drive, sealing a 26–21 road victory and securing the first seed for the 49ers in the 2019 playoffs. [20] Greenlaw credited review from the 49ers' Week 15 29–22 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, which ended in a similar scenario where wide receiver Julio Jones was barely able to break the plane into the endzone, for giving him the correct technique to hit Hollister high. Greenlaw finished his rookie year with 92 tackles, two pass deflections, a sack, and an interception in 16 games and 11 starts. [23] He was named to the PFWA NFL All-Rookie Team. [24] The 49ers finished atop the NFC West with a 13–3 record and the #1-seed in the playoffs. [25] In the Divisional Round against the Minnesota Vikings, Greenlaw recorded four tackles and a forced fumble during the 27–10 win. [26] During the National Football Conference (NFC) Championship Game against the Green Bay Packers, he recorded six tackles as the 49ers won by a score of 37–20. [27] During Super Bowl LIV against the Kansas City Chiefs, Greenlaw recorded four tackles as the 49ers lost by a score of 31–20. [28]
During the season-opening 24–20 loss to the Cardinals, Greenlaw recorded five tackles and a pass deflection. [29] During a Week 6 24–16 victory over the Rams, he recorded a team-high eight tackles. [30] In the next game against the New England Patriots, Greenlaw recorded six tackles and his first sack of the season on Cam Newton as the 49ers won on the road by a score of 33–6. [31] During a Week 10 27–13 road loss to the Saints, Greenlaw recorded a team-high 11 tackles. [32]
Greenlaw finished his second professional season with 86 tackles, a pass deflection, and a sack in 13 games and 11 starts. [33]
During the season-opening 41–33 road victory over the Detroit Lions, Greenlaw recorded six tackles and his first defensive touchdown on a pick six off of Jared Goff. [34] Greenlaw was placed on injured reserve on September 18, 2021, after undergoing groin surgery. [35] He was activated on November 27. [36] In the regular-season finale against the Rams, Greenlaw recorded a team-high 12 tackles in the 27–24 overtime road victory. [37]
Greenlaw finished the 2021 season with 21 tackles, a pass deflection, and a pick-six in three games and two starts. [38] The 49ers finished the season with a 10–7 record and earned the #7 seed in the playoffs. [39] In the Wild Card Round against the Dallas Cowboys, Greenlaw recorded five tackles in the 23–17 road victory. [40] In the Divisional Round against the Packers, he recorded six tackles and a fumble recovery in the narrow 13–10 road victory. [41] During the NFC Championship against the Rams, Greenlaw recorded three tackles as the 49ers narrowly lost on the road by a score of 20–17. [42]
On September 18, 2022, Greenlaw recorded a team-high eight tackles in a 27–7 victory over the Seahawks. [43] The next day, he signed a two-year extension with the 49ers. [44]
During a narrow Week 3 11–10 road loss to the Denver Broncos, Greenlaw recorded a team-high 10 tackles. [45] In the next game against the Rams, he had a team-high 15 tackles as the 49ers won by a score of 24–9. [46] The following week against the Carolina Panthers, Greenlaw recorded a team-high 11 tackles in the 37–15 road victory. [47]
During a Week 10 22–16 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, Greenlaw recorded a team-high seven tackles before being ejected for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert near the end of the second quarter. [48] Greenlaw was later fined $10,609 for the hit. [49] Three weeks later against the Miami Dolphins, he recorded a team-high eight tackles, a pass deflection, and recovered a Tua Tagovailoa fumble forced by Nick Bosa and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown to secure a 33–17 victory for the 49ers. [50] In the next game against the Buccaneers, Greenlaw recorded a team-high 15 tackles, a pass deflection, and intercepted Tom Brady once in the 35–7 victory. [51] The following week against the Seahawks, Greenlaw recorded eight tackles, two pass deflections, and a forced fumble in the 21–13 road victory. [52]
The 49ers finished atop the NFC West with a 13–4 record and qualified for the playoffs. [53] Greenlaw finished the 2022 season with a career-high 127 tackles, six pass deflections, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, an interception, and a defensive touchdown in 15 games and starts. [54] The 49ers defeated the Seahawks in the Wild Card Round by a score of 41–23 behind a strong performance by Greenlaw, who recorded a team-high 11 tackles. [55] In the Divisional Round against the Cowboys, he had six tackles and a pass deflection in the 19–12 victory. [56] During the NFC Championship against the Philadelphia Eagles, Greenlaw recorded nine tackles as the 49ers lost on the road by a score of 31–7. [57] He was ranked 79th by his fellow players on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2023. [58]
In the 2023 season, Greenlaw appeared in and started 15 games. He finished with 1.5 sacks, 120 total tackles (75 solo), and four passes defended. [59] In the Divisional Round win over the Packers, Greenlaw had two interceptions. [60]
During Super Bowl LVIII against the Kansas City Chiefs, Greenlaw fell over after coming off the sideline, which turned out to be a left leg injury. Greenlaw left and did not play for the remainder of the game as the 49ers lost 22–25 in overtime. The next morning, it was revealed that Greenlaw had suffered a torn Achilles. [61] Prior to the tear, Greenlaw missed the regular season finale with an infected Achilles, but Greenlaw stated that he would still play through it on a part-time basis when the 49ers ventured through the playoffs. He later had successful surgery on his torn Achilles. [62]
Greenlaw began the 2024 season on the reserve/PUP list while recovering from the torn Achilles. [63] On December 12, 2024, Greenlaw was activated from the reserve/PUP list. [64]

Ahmad Kadar Brooks is an American former football linebacker. He played college football at Virginia and was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the third round of the 2006 NFL supplemental draft. Brooks also played for the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers.
NaVorro Roderick Bowman is an American former professional football player who was a linebacker for eight seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He is currently the linebackers coach for the Los Angeles Chargers. He played college football for the Penn State Nittany Lions and was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round of the 2010 NFL draft. Bowman was also a member of the Oakland Raiders.
Earl Winty Thomas III is an American former professional football safety who played in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Texas Longhorns and received consensus All-American honors and played in the 2010 BCS National Championship Game. He left after his redshirt sophomore year and he was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the first round of the 2010 NFL draft. During his time with the Seahawks, he made 6 Pro Bowls and 5 All-Pro teams as he was a core member of the Legion of Boom defense, winning Super Bowl XLVIII against the Denver Broncos and started in Super Bowl XLIX. After nine seasons with Seattle, he signed with the Baltimore Ravens as a free agent and played one season while earning his 7th Pro Bowl invite.
Kameron Darnel Chancellor, nicknamed "Bam Bam Kam", is an American former professional football safety who spent his entire nine-year career with the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Virginia Tech Hokies prior to being selected by the Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL draft. A four-time Pro Bowler, he was one of the key members of their Legion of Boom secondary. He also helped lead the Seahawks to victory in Super Bowl XLVIII. Chancellor retired following complications from a neck injury he suffered in 2017.
Malcolm Xavier Smith is an American former professional football player who was a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the USC Trojans. He was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the seventh round of the 2011 NFL draft. Smith was named the Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XLVIII after the Seahawks defeated the Denver Broncos.
Mark Barron is an American former professional football player who was a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide, where he was twice recognized as an All-American, and was a member of two BCS National Championship teams. He was selected as a strong safety by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round of the 2012 NFL draft, where he played for two and a half seasons before being traded to the St. Louis Rams in 2014, where he moved to the linebacker position. He also played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos.
Aldon Jacarus Smith is an American former professional football player in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Missouri Tigers, and was selected by the San Francisco 49ers with the seventh overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft. Smith was a first-team All-Pro and a Pro Bowl selection as an outside linebacker with the 49ers in 2012. He also played defensive end for the Oakland Raiders and Dallas Cowboys.
Kenneth Bernard Wright Jr. is an American former professional football player who was a linebacker for eleven seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He is currently the defense quality control coach for the San Francisco 49ers. He was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the fourth round of the 2011 NFL draft. He played college football for the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
Richard Kevin Sherman is an American former professional football cornerback who played 11 seasons in the National Football League (NFL). Sherman played college football for the Stanford Cardinal, beginning his career as a wide receiver before moving to cornerback as a junior. He was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL draft. He was selected to the Pro Bowl five times and voted All-Pro five times, including three times to the first team, and led the NFL in interceptions in 2013, when he also helped the Seahawks win their first Super Bowl. Sherman is regarded as one of the greatest cornerbacks of all time.
Byron S. Maxwell is an American former professional football player who was a cornerback in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Hutchinson Community College before transferring to Minnesota and was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL draft. Campbell has also played for the Arizona Cardinals and the Green Bay Packers.
