Dreams is a 2004 Indian Tamil-language erotic romance film directed by Kasthuri Raja and produced by Saraswathi Srikanth. The film featured Raja's son Dhanush in the lead role with Diya. The music was composed by Bharadwaj with cinematography by Kichas. The film was released on 11 November 2004 and became a box office failure.

Plot

Shakti, a young man, is spoilt by his father and leads a wayward life. However, when he falls in love, he works on changing himself for the better but things take a turn for the worse.

Production

The project was launched shortly after the success of Thulluvadho Ilamai in 2002, but as Dhanush's Kaadhal Kondein became a large success, Dreams was stalled temporarily as Dhanush's dates became blocked. [2] The film ran into a legal tussle with the makers of his other film, Sullan , with the producers adamant that Dreams was released first although to no avail. [3] The film's delay meant that Dhanush shot ten straight days for the project to complete it, while the delay also had resulted in failings in continuity. [4] [5] By the time of the release, the producer Srikanth and director Kasthuri Raja were still engaged in a legal tussle. [6] [7]

Release and reception

The film was released on 11 November 2004. [8] IndiaGlitz.com's critic described that the film "is poor pastiche of double meanings, bedroom scenes and a few other vulgar segments", criticising all aspects and giving it a verdict as a "dull and laborious film". [9] Sify wrote "Dreams has no style in presentation or any logic story wise. The plot is far-fetched and by the end you can’t figure out what’s happening to the screenplay that has gone haywire". [10] The Hindu wrote "You only hope that Dhanush does some serious retrospection and in future chooses films with care. He should not relent even for the sake of dad's dream projects. After all, having acquired such incredible fan following in a very short while, he cannot afford to be reckless". [11]

The film opened simultaneously with two successful ventures, Attahasam and Manmadhan and subsequently Dreams started slowly and eventually became a colossal failure. [12] [13] [14]

Kadhal 2 Kalyanam is an unreleased Tamil-language romantic comedy film directed by newcomer Milind Rau that stars debutante Sathya, brother of Tamil actor Arya, and Divya Spandana, whilst, Jayashree, Nagendra Prasad, Kasthuri and Anuja Iyer play pivotal roles. Noted film critic Baradwaj Rangan had written the dialogues, while Yuvan Shankar Raja composed the film's score and soundtrack. The cinematography and editing were handled by P. S. Vinod and Leo John Paul, respectively. Pre-production works began by mid-2008, while the filming continued for over one year, being completed by July 2010. The film was jointly produced by Mirchi Movies and East Coast Entertainment, who are now not in the film-making business. Hence the movie remains unreleased.

He made his acting debut in 2002 with the coming of age drama, Thulluvadho Ilamai, directed by his father Kasthuri Raja. His role as a mentally-disturbed man in Kaadhal Kondein (2003)—directed by his brother Selvaraghavan—won him critical acclaim. It marks the second collaboration between Dhanush and director Durai Senthilkumar after Kodi. The film depicts Adimurai, an ancient martial art that was practiced in Tamil Nadu. For their roles, Dhanush and Sneha underwent martial arts training prior to the commencement of the filming.
