Pest is a county (vármegye) in central Hungary. It covers an area of 6,393.14 square kilometres (2,468.41 sq mi), and has a population of 1,339,090 (2023). It surrounds the national capital Budapest and the majority of the county's population live in the suburbs of Budapest. It shares borders with Slovakia and the Hungarian counties Nógrád, Heves, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, Bács-Kiskun, Fejér, and Komárom-Esztergom. The River Danube flows through the county. The 2015–16 Magyar Kupa was the 76th season of Hungary's annual knock-out cup football competition. It started with the first match of the first round on 5 August 2015 and will end with the final held on 14 May 2016 at Groupama Aréna, Budapest. Ferencváros are the defending champions, having won their 21st cup competition last season. The winner of the competition will qualify for the first qualifying round of the 2016–17 UEFA Europa League. Teams which are involved in 2015–16 UEFA Champions League (Videoton) and 2015–16 UEFA Europa League joined only in the third round.

The 2017–18 Magyar Kupa was the 78th season of Hungary's annual knock-out cup football competition. Újpest FC won the cup beating Puskás Akadémia FC in the final at the Groupama Aréna.

On 06:46:13 CET on 12 January 1956, a rather unusual earthquake measuring 5.8 on the moment magnitude scale struck just southeast of Budapest under Dunaharaszti at a depth of 15 km. The earthquake had a maximum European macroseismic intensity of VIII (Heavily damaging). The earthquake was felt throughout Hungary other than the eastern and western edges of the country. The event was preceded by 31 other weaker events. There was widespread damage to homes and other structures; 2 died and 48 were injured. The earthquake was one of the strongest to ever strike Hungary and the worst during the 20th century.
