East of Eden is the second studio album by Taken by Trees, the solo project of Swedish musician Victoria Bergsman. The album was released on 7 September 2009 by Rough Trade Records. Bergsman travelled to Pakistan to record the album, and several of the album's songs incorporate influences from Pakistani music. [4]

Contents

The song "My Boys" is a cover of the Animal Collective song "My Girls" with some minor lyric changes. The song "Anna" also features Animal Collective member Noah "Panda Bear" Lennox on backing vocals. The song "To Lose Someone" features the voice of local Sufi musician Sain Muhammad Ali. [14]

Taken by Trees is the solo project of Victoria Bergsman, former lead singer for the Concretes. The act's debut album Open Field was released on 18 June 2007. Four demo songs had previously been recorded under the production of Björn Yttling and were available on the band's official website beginning on 13 September 2006. The second Taken by Trees album, East of Eden, was available for streaming on Drowned in Sound, and was released on 7 September 2009 in the U.K., and the next day in the U.S. When recording the album, Taken by Trees retreated to Pakistan and recruited a cast of amateur musicians which are heard on East of Eden.

The song received generally positive reviews from critics and performed well in the record charts, reaching the top 40 in Canada, the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. It also was part of the tracklist in the video games FIFA 08 and FIFA 23. A music video made for the song features animated versions of Peter and Bergsman performing the song in various locations.
