Elamaram Kareem (born 1 July 1953) is an Indian politician,trade unionist,and a member of Communist Party of India (Marxist). He was a Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha. [2] [3]
He was the Minister for Industries &Commerce in the Left Democratic Front government under V. S. Achuthanandan from 2006 to 2011. [4] He earlier represented the Beypore constituency in Kozhikode district in the Kerala Legislative Assembly. [5]
Kareem was instrumental in organizing the tile industry as well as its revival activities across Kerala. [6]
From 2 June 2018 to 1 July 2024,he ws an MP in Rajya Sabha and a standing committee member on labour. He has 89% attendance and 98% participation in debates as opposed to the national average of 78% and 37.4% respectively. [2] [3] Construction of Nanjakode- Nilamboor railway line,Revival of FACT,Kochi,Against the Privatisation of Hindustan Newsprint Limited,Kerala,demand for Kannur seaport-airport-Wayanad- Coorg-Mysuru rail line,Report of Central team on Kerala floods,Reduction in seats for M.Phil. and PhD in Central Universities are some of the major issues he raised in parliament along with various other labour and agricultural issues. On 21 September 2020,Kareem along with seven other members were suspended from the Rajya Sabha for their unruly behaviour in the house by tearing documents,breaking mics,standing on tables and heckling the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. Their actions were condemned by several leaders. [7] [8]
A member of parliament (MP) is the representative in parliament of the people who live in their electoral district. In many countries with bicameral parliaments,this term refers only to members of the lower house since upper house members often have a different title. The terms congressman/congresswoman or deputy are equivalent terms used in other jurisdictions. The Lok Sabha,also known as the House of the People,is the lower house of India's bicameral Parliament,with the upper house being the Rajya Sabha. Members of the Lok Sabha are elected by an adult universal suffrage and a first-past-the-post system to represent their respective constituencies,and they hold their seats for five years or until the body is dissolved by the President on the advice of the council of ministers. The house meets in the Lok Sabha Chambers of the Parliament House,New Delhi.

A Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) is a representative elected by the voters of an electoral district (constituency) to the legislature of State government in the Indian system of government. From each constituency,the people elect one representative who then becomes a member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). Each state has between seven and nine MLAs for every Member of Parliament (MP) that it has in the Lok Sabha,the lower house of India's bicameral parliament. There are also members in three unicameral legislatures in Union Territories:the Delhi Legislative Assembly,Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and the Puducherry Legislative Assembly. P. Rajeeve is an Indian politician,who currently serves as the Minister for Industries,Law and Coir in the Government of Kerala. He represents Kalamassery constituency in the Kerala Legislative Assembly.

Vellamvelly Muraleedharan is an Indian politician from Kerala who served as Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs of India from 2019 to 2024. He was the eighth State President of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kerala. He was also a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha. He was sworn in as a Union Minister on 30 May 2019. On 12 June 2019,Muraleedharan was appointed Government Deputy Chief Whip in the Rajya Sabha.
K.K. Ragesh is an Indian politician and member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He was elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha the Upper house of Indian Parliament from Kerala in 2015. He was earlier the president of the Students Federation of India In 2020,he received Parliamentary Group for Children (PGC) Award for the commendable work done in the parliament for the protection of the rights of children and students.
A Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha is the representative of the Indian states to one of the two houses of the Parliament of India. Rajya Sabha MPs are elected by the electoral college of the elected members of the State Assembly with a system of proportional representation by a single transferable vote. The Parliament of India is bicameral with two houses;Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha. Compared to the Lok Sabha,the Rajya Sabha has fewer members and its members have more restricted power. Unlike the Lok Sabha,the Rajya Sabha is a permanent body and cannot be dissolved at any time. However every second year,one third of the members are retired and the vacancies are filled by fresh elections and Presidential nomination at the beginning of every third year.
The 17th Lok Sabha was formed by the members elected in the 2019 Indian general election. Elections,all across India,were conducted in seven phases from 11 April 2019 to 19 May 2019 by the Election Commission of India. Counting started officially on the morning of 23 May 2019 and the results were declared on the same day.
