The Emblem of Jharkhand is the official seal of the Government of the Indian state of Jharkhand, officially adopted on 15 August 2020. [1]
The emblem consists of multiple rings, in which elephants (the state animal) on the green background in the outer ring, represents strength, wildlife, royalty and rich vegetation. The middle ring showcases, Palash flowers (the state flower), which are also known as 'flames of the jungle', representing rich flora, beauty and culture. The inner ring consists of people, in the unique Jharkhandi style painting, which represents the rich history and strength of social bounding. The Lion Capital of Ashoka is at the centre, with the motto Satyameva Jayate .
The first emblem of Jharkhand was adopted on 15 November 2000 when Jharkhand state was formed from the southern part of Bihar. This emblem consisted of an Ashoka Chakra, as depicted on the national Flag of India, surrounded by four letters Js stylised as daggers. The legend underneath, Jharkhand Sarkar, translates as Government of Jharkhand.
In January 2020, the new Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren announced that a new state emblem is to be adopted soon. [2] He stated that the new emblem should represent the culture, tradition, history ,and future of the state and invited entries for a new design via a public competition. [3] A purported winning design, depicting a tree, was subsequently reported by several media outlets but this was later revealed to be a hoax. [4] [5]
On 22 July a new emblem was officially approved to be used from 15 August 2020. [6]
The Government of Jharkhand can be represented by a banner displaying the emblem of the state on a white field. [7] [8]
Shibu Soren is an Indian politician who is currently member of Rajya Sabha representing Jharkhand and the leader of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. He formerly served as 3rd Chief Minister of Jharkhand, first in 2005 for 10 days, then from 2008 to 2009 and again from 2009 to 2010. He is also the President of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) political party, a constituent of the INDIA Alliance. He was the member of Lok Sabha from Dumka from 1980 to 1984, 1989 to 1998 and from 2002 to 2019 and Minister for Coal in the Union Cabinet from 2004 to 2004, 2004 to 2005 and from 2006 to 2006, when a Delhi district court found him guilty in the murder of his private secretary Shashi Nath Jha in 1994. He has also been indicted in the past on other criminal charges.
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha is a political party in the Indian state of Jharkhand which was founded by Binod Bihari Mahato. Shibu Soren is the president of the JMM. JMM is also an influential political party in the state of Odisha and parts of neighbouring of states. Its election symbol for Jharkhand is Bow and Arrow.
Chandra Shekhar Dubey also known as Dadai Dubey was a Cabinet minister in Jharkhand government. He was an elected MLA of Bishrampur. Dadai Dubey is a member of the Indian National Congress political party. Chandrashekhar Dubey was also member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India. He represented the Dhanbad constituency of Jharkhand. Chandrashekhar Dubey was made the state rural development minister in Jharkhand in Hemant Soren government in August 2013. Dubey was also the general secretary of Rashtiya Koyla Mazdoor Sangh affiliated to INTUC. Chandrashekhar Dubey was also a senate member of Nilamber Pitamber University, nominated by Hon'ble Speaker of Jharkhand Legislative Assembly. In July 2015, Dadai Dubey was arrested for misbehaving with the police and was sent to judicial custody.

Hemant Soren is an Indian politician from Jharkhand, who is currently serving as Chief Minister of Jharkhand since 4 July 2024. He also served as the 5th Chief Minister of Jharkhand from 2019 to 2024 and from 2013 to 2014. He is also the working president of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, a political party in Jharkhand. He represents Barhait constituency in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly since 2014 and has represented Dumka twice — from 2019 to 2020, and from 2009 to 2014. He was also the Deputy Chief Minister of Jharkhand from 2010 to 2013, Leader of the Opposition, Jharkhand Legislative Assembly from 2014 to 2019 and member of Rajya Sabha from Jharkhand, from 2009 to 2010.
Vijay Kumar Hansdak is an Indian politician and a member of the Lok Sabha. He represents the Rajmahal constituency of Jharkhand and a member of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. Vijay is son of former Congress MP and former Congress State (Jharkhand) President Late Thomas Hansda from the same seat. Vijay joined the JMM fold just before the poll dates were announced.
Haji Hussain Ansari was an Indian politician and a leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). He served as Minister of Minority Welfare and Registration Department in the Government of Jharkhand since 28 January 2020. Ansari was the first and only Muslim to become minister in the state of Jharkhand. He was elected to the Jharkhand Assembly on the JMM ticket four times from Madhupur Assembly constituency in 1995, 2000, 2009 and 2019 respectively. He also acted as the leader of the opposition in 2004.
Elections in Jharkhand are being conducted since the formation of the state in 2000, to elect the members of Jharkhand Vidhan Sabha and to the members of the lower house of the Indian parliament, the Lok Sabha. There are 81 Vidhan Sabha constituencies and 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state.
