Euromoney Finance Minister of the Year

Between 1981-2016, Euromoney magazine awarded the Finance Minister of the Year award. [1] This award was given to a country Finance Minister who reformed or innovated their countries economy during their tenure. In Australia, the award colloquially nicknamed "World's Greatest Treasurer" after Paul Keating won in 1984. [2] [3] The award has not been given since 2017, with the magazine focusing their articles and awards on Banking Excellence. [4]

Leszek Balcerowicz Polish economist

Leszek Henryk Balcerowicz is a Polish economist, statesman, and Professor at Warsaw School of Economics. He served as Chairman of the National Bank of Poland (2001–2007) and twice as Deputy Prime Minister of Poland. In 1989, he became Minister of Finance in Tadeusz Mazowiecki's first non-communist government and led the free-market economic reforms, proponents of which say they have transformed Poland into one of Europe's fastest growing economies, but which critics say were followed by a large increase in unemployment. In 2007, he founded the Civil Development Forum think-tank and became the Chairman of its council.

Alexei Kudrin Russian politician and economist

Alexei Leonidovich Kudrin is a Russian liberal politician and economist serving as the 4th and current Chairman of the Accounts Chamber since 2018. Previously he served in the government of Russia as Minister of Finance from 18 May 2000 to 26 September 2011. After graduating with degrees in finance and economics, Kudrin worked in the administration of Saint Petersburg's liberal Mayor Anatoly Sobchak. In 1996, he started working in the Presidential Administration of Boris Yeltsin. He was appointed as Finance Minister on 28 May 2000 and held the post for 11 years, making him the longest-serving Finance Minister in post-Soviet Russia. In addition, he was Deputy Prime Minister from 2000 to 2004 and again beginning in 2007. As Finance Minister, Kudrin was widely credited with prudent fiscal management, commitment to tax and budget reform and championing the free market.

Tharman Shanmugaratnam Singaporean politician and economist (born 1957)

Tharman Shanmugaratnam is a Singaporean politician and economist serving as the Senior Minister of Singapore since 1 May 2019, after serving as Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister for eight years respectively. He is also Coordinating Minister for Social Policies, and advises the Prime Minister on economic policies. He chairs the National Jobs Council aimed at rebuilding skills and jobs in the wake of COVID-19. He is concurrently the Chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), Singapore's central bank and financial regulator.

Uzodinma Iweala Nigerian-American writer

Uzodinma Iweala is a Nigerian-American author and medical doctor. His debut novel, Beasts of No Nation, is a formation of his thesis work at Harvard. It depicts a child soldier in an unnamed African country. The book, published in 2005 and adapted as an award-winning film in 2015, was mentioned by Time Magazine, The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, The Times, and Rolling Stone. In 2012, he released the non-fiction book Our Kind of People, about the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Nigeria. He later released a novel titled Speak No Evil, published in 2018, which highlights the life of a gay Nigerian-American boy named Niru.

Sri Mulyani Indonesian economist and politician

Sri Mulyani Indrawati is an Indonesian economist who has been Minister of Finance of Indonesia since 2016; previously she served in the same post from 2005 to 2010. In June 2010 she was appointed as Managing Director of the World Bank Group and resigned as Minister of Finance. On July 27, 2016, Sri Mulyani was reappointed as Minister of Finance in a cabinet reshuffle by President Joko Widodo, replacing Bambang Brodjonegoro.

She is the fourth generation of the Botín family to hold this role. John-Arne Røttingen is a Norwegian medical scientist, research administrator and civil servant. He is currently Ambassador for Global Health in the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and has been a special advisor to the World Health Organization (WHO).
